Welcome!
Yeah, that's not a GPX, it's a GR.
Also, what do you mean by "fully customed"
Very clean nonetheless.

Re: First time FTO owner from Victoria, Australia
I bought it from a collector who restores older cars. He wants to downgrade to a smaller workshop in the next month so needed to clear some space and is selling most of his collection to work on his few favourites. It had the engine changed in 98 to the de3a.
It's been kept in a warehouse, then in a workshop so it's never been kept outdoors and was only driven to shows etc.
custom pearl paintjob
tinted windows
lowed
sports exhaust
immobiliser
hornet alarm
keyless entry through remote
6 x 9 pioneer speakers
pioneer splits speakers
kenwood CD⁄USB player
JL audio 12" boxed sub
2 x JL audio amps
custom graphite cluster
Was sold as a gpx, it's on all my paperwork and the old rego papers that came with the car. I'm learning but I'm no pro by a long shot. So tell me what makes you think it's the GR instead?

Re: First time FTO owner from Victoria, Australia
The engine is the giveaway. There are two kinds of the 6A12 engine found in the FTO, the MIVEC, which belongs to the GPX and GPvR and has slightly higher power, and the non-MIVEC for the GR and GX. It's easy to spot as on the GR engines, like yours, the oil filler cap is on the right hand side. By what you said, someone could possibly have put a non-MIVEC engine in a GPX, but that wouldn't make a lot of sense. Best way to check is run your chassis code on the Complete FTO website.

I think possibly the GR also has a lower redline, 7500 instead of 8000, but don't quite recall!

Should also add DE3A is the code for all the V6 models GR, GX, GPX, GPvR. DE2A is the code for the 4 cylinder GS model.
If you can get the VIN from the firewall we can check it with the VIN decoder.

Clean looking car. I would have knocked that $50 off the price....damn...I can't buy something which isn't rounded off to the lowest.
To add to the GPX conversation. Your car has a MAF sensor. GPX doesn't have MAF sensors.
Is that a white F350 parked in that spot? :\

Re: First time FTO owner from Victoria, Australia
The engine was the first thing I noticed when I went to pick the car up, I'd looked into it before I went so I'd noticed the difference and said the same thing.
I only picked it up this week, I spent yesterday and the day before finding copies of the FTO Technical Manual, FTO owners handbook 1994-1998, the engine manual and the wiring schematics, but I still need to get the workshop manual. I figured that was the best way for me to learn about it, aside from joining here. I knew this would be my best source of useful information. I figure I can't learn if I don't ask.
For her condition and how well she runs I'm not particularly concerned either way. She is one very beautiful car, but I definitely would like to know one way or another. I really appreciate your help.

Yeah, still definitely a steal for the $. (and GR motors have lower compression stock, so good for boost. )

Re: First time FTO owner from Victoria, Australia
Thank-you so much for that, , that's fantastic, I'm actually a little happier that it's got the right engine for the model. That was really bugging me. In fact it was the only thing that annoyed me.
I just got her back from the auto electricians, turns out everything is great... I've been waiting for some some hidden reason for it being so cheap but so far everything has checked out even better than I'd expected.

Re: First time FTO owner from Victoria, Australia
Thanks guys. Now all I need to do is find seat covers that fit. I found a company online that custom make them to order $300-400 and it's in the UK so postage is a killer on top of that. Do any of you know if there is someone here that make them?
I plan on go through the forums a bit more over the weekend. It's been a very long week!
