Find me a head unit!
Hey guys,
I was just wanting some suggestions about which head unit I should be.
My wishlist (from most important to least important):
- USB input (from rear of unit is preferred)
- sub $200
- single DIN
- decent brand name (Alpine / Sony / Pioneer / Kenwood etc)
I don't care about max power output / separate sub output (don't have one) / radio (don't listen to it) / big screen etc.
So basically I only care about a simple head unit that I can connect a USB key to cos I care more about quantity than quality
Suggestions anyone?

Hmmm ... Ebay is going to be the best bet then .... Or Strathfield Car Radio ... They have cheaper ones, little functionality and so on... I picked up one as a replacement radio for a car I was selling ... $150 got me a decent deck with the imputs needed... Came stock with the plug at the front too ... But I think that was for Ipod....

Best i've been able to find so far is:
http://www.ryda.com.au/JVC-KD-G735-Car- ... kdg735.htm
Has anyone has experience with JVC? Not exactly as brand name as I was hoping for, but not completely unknown either.

Cheers mate.
I've got a bid placed on a Pioneer P6050UB - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... CA:AU:1123
It retails for about $550 but I'm only bidding half of that, so not confident, but thought it was worth a shot (anyone from here outbids me I'll kill em )
If that doesn't work out, I'll be buying the P4050UB from Ebay BuyItNow, for about $220 - a little over budget but not too bad.
Both units have a rear USB input and cable so you can put a USB memory key into your glove box, means you don't have an ugly USB stick sticking out the front of your head deck. They're also both iPod ready. From the Pioneer 2008 range, so they're not yet stocked at Strathfield etc as far as I can find.

i dunno if this info is too late but yeh
recommended head units are: Alpine and Pioneer
must have ipod jack/usb
reason why i say these 2 brands is because while i was working at one of the Gary's Car Radio in melb. i notice a lot of problems that occur with other brands. u can pick an mp3 player for $100 also. why not spend a little more and get something that will look good and provide an good market rep.
strathfield has heaps of them cheap mp3s around but quality wise its sh*t(no offence)
Alpine and Pioneer are on the top of the list in Headunit quality.
so yeh. hope this helps.
Note: spend a little more n get a good unit. you cant go wrong!

hey thats not too bad with the remote and everything. i reckon you just need a good 100gb worth of songs and your set for lifenicholas wrote:Hey buddy,
thanks for that. Have had the unit in for a few months now; went with a Pioneer DEH 4050 or whatever they call it.
Have a hard disk drive in the glove box, so I've kissed CDs goodbye; it's sweet as!

Yep works like a charm.
I thought i'd need a massive hard drive, but I'm seriously struggling to fill 20gb so far. I've got 100+ gb on my computer, but some of that sh*t i'd never listen to lol.
Best part was, this was how much it cost me:
- 4050 HU on ebay $219
- 2.5" HDD case $ 25
- 20Gb 2.5" HDD from work $ 0
____
$244 for my perfect set-up.

nice work.
i would love to have a cheap good system but i spent 4000 on my system n had it in the care for less than 2 months.
$4000 was staff price buying directly from Sound stream with no tax charges lols.
retail would b look at around $8000 - $9000 pending on where you get it and quality.
but a deal is a deal.
