Age or mileage?
As much as it depends on how well the car is looked after, which is more important if it's a choice between the two? A newer car with more k's, or an older one with less?
Looking at a 1991 with 107,000; or a 1997 with 207,000.

Re: Age or mileage?
It all comes down to what the km's were used on. A city driver which is stopped and started/turned on and off all the time will be a bit worse off than a pure highway driver. also how often the car is driven, daily is better than weekend.

Re: Age or mileage?
Depends on the actual car itself, it could have low K's and have been abused mechanically and never serviced or washed. Could have high K's and been looked after it's whole life.
What sort of cars are we talking about anyway?

It looks fairly mint, but I'm not sure if it would be a weekender. Probably just being in the city is why it's so low. It's an MX6, by the way.
That's what I'm leaning towards I think. I mean, despite when it was made, usage is usage I guess.Chiinkstarrh wrote:i prefer less k's imo

Is there much difference in the technology with the 2 cars?

Re: Age or mileage?
imo go with the white one, when anyone starts talking about sweet exhaust notes, and going hard etc etc it USUALLY means that theyve abused the car, limiter bashed it etc, but just go inspect both and see how you go

Re: Age or mileage?
gonna check it out tomorrow methinks. Other good indicator (at least I think), it that it still has stock wheels. So hopefully it was just some middle-aged person who bought it new when it came out.
I'm wondering if how much I could haggle the price though. It's fairly reasonable as is, and I couldn't find much (barring Kia, Hyundai, Proton, Holden Barina) in the post 1990's, under 150,000kms, under $5000. An '01 Lancer was there, but it's not quite the same car.

Age or mileage?
White one for sure.
And as for the question. As per mentions. Goes down to the car itself, iv seen low mileage in grubby/sh*t looking condition engine wise too

+1 for the white one
Thats just looking at the pics though, I have looked at many pics of cars for sale and when I turned up for a look they were nothing like the one in the pic. Old photos, photoshopped etc..

Re: Age or mileage?
Mm, had a look at a car recently that wasn't in as good condition as I had hoped. But it was reaaally old and dirt cheap, so I wasn't too surprised to find a few loose panels and rust spots. Passed that one up though.
Hoping this one doesn't sell before I get to look at it! also happened recently. think the ad is still up though.

Re: Age or mileage?
I do. Long story short, it's a dual-ownership thing with my dad for my brother and I. I'm being a little indulgent by getting another, but the idea is that my brother will buy my share ($4500) off me eventually. Although I should definitely be more grateful for what I've got already, I just want something that's just my own. Pretty selfish of me, really, but I have the means.phi-tec wrote:may i ask, don't you have the car in your dp? or you getting a new car or something?

Naah, I thought about it. At least that sort of price range. But I get hooked on appearances. 'sides, spending 1k on a sound system is crazy to me.phi-tec wrote:ohhhhhh right right, dude get a jazz or echo or something, no sh*t id get one if the fto wasnt given to me

Re: Age or mileage?
true, but music isn't the only thing about a car. asides from wanting something with a bit of character, you know, handling, fun etc.
I'm sure I could spend less, but I'm figuring, why not pay a little more for something a bit better?

That car is worth $13,500? Or have I Gen Y'd what you meant.
Wow.
I wouldn't say your selfish, you're getting so much more car for the same price as your share.

Re: Age or mileage?
Totally Gen Y'd I'm afraid. Dad and I bought it about $9000 end of last year. Obviously worth less now. But the advantage of him buying it off me is that he's also getting the same car (which is still in fairly good nick) for half the price. I don't really care what they do with it after that. But if he wants to keep it, he can keep it. And if he wants to sell it, (depending on how soon) he can make back his $4500 and maybe even dad can get some of his bit back. or my youngest bro can buy it off him. But he's said he might want a bit more space (he drums).Astron_Boy wrote:Dafuq?bjk wrote:the idea is that my brother will buy my share ($4500) off me eventually.

Suffice to say, just had a look at it. As clean in the flesh as the pictures, 'least to my amatuer next-to-no-mechanical knowledge judgement. Test drive in an hour once he's moved a few cars. Keen.
