Removing timing belt pully's

Post by mrx »

I have a noisy/squealing timing belt pully on the engine in the car....and a spare MIVEC engine sitting in the garage.

So, how do I go about getting them off? Given that it is not a simple task to get the other engine to a mechanic for them to do it, how do I get them off myself?

I am going to assume that you need a special tool (as indicated in the manual) but just wondering if there is another way.

it would be unusual for toothed belts to squeal! more likely to be alternator or air con belts , make sure there correctly adjusted if still noisy take them off and try again before giong to all that work to change t/bs

but the timing belt if too tight will make a "hum" type noise.

But i would suggest the A/C and Alt belts too...maybe even the idle pully or the bearings of the pullies...I know some of mine need ot be replaced.

No, I am suggesting it is the bearing on one of the pully's that is making the noise, not the belt itself.

I will be double (triple) checking this as it's not a minor job, but have a strong suspicion I am right.

The pulleys are easy to get off - it's getting to them that is a pain in the butt!

ohh and no special tools are needed.
