cheers for that guys, i think i'll leave it for a bit, i'll probably do it just before i decide (when my bank balance decides) on respraying my car, so that i wont be driving around for half a yr with a dodgy paint job.

oh and speaking of the DIY, there's a DIY on completFTO i'm pretty sure, i remember reading it

There's potential for a thread about anything on FTO Australia

I won't have problems with rusting if mine's a 96 GR will I?

Isn't this problem limited to 95 or pre models?
I have to work - People on the dole depend on me.

Ahhh, but does yours have a sunroof?????. If so make sure they are going to drill out the subframe surrounding it as there is glue underneath it that needs to be removed and cleaned up. It then needs to be spot welded back in before being primed and painted

ok i have just checked mine and there seems to be a little bit of rust coming up near the middle of the roof. So pissed only had this for 2 months now. Didnt notice it when i bought the car. Anyways its about 2mm wide. I'll get it fixed quickly . Also i have a black FTO without sunroof too, 1997 model GPX.

Ok guys i went out today at lunch time during work and got a quote done to get my rust fixed. They said that it will be an easy job to fix and they may have to weld a little but meh....... anyways to the point.. they quoted me $500.00 to grind it back to bare metal, weld the rust, take all the glue out of the roof, respray.

I think thats pretty good value. Until i get a full respray, but i'll get that done once i settle down in QLD sometime within the next 2 months or so.

Will keep you updated on progress.

    Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a good shop in Sydney who I could rely on to do a good job repairing this for me ?

Something close to the city would be fantastic...

Wow i'm lucky that i read this!

Mine is going into the pannel/paint shop in the next fortnight, and i just told him to use bog to fix my roof up. He told me that it would last at least 9 or so years (thought that i would have sold the car by then anyway) because he uses something to do with fibroglass on it too?

But i'm going to get him to do it properly now but just incase i keep it for longer! It may cost a bit more but it's worth it!

I have heard that you can get ELECTRONIC RUST CONVERTERS for cars. (lost of 4x4s have them).

You hook them up to your battery, or something and then any other rust that may form,or has formed wont get any worse! I have heard that they are really good. They may be something to look into, if FTO's are prone to rusting in the roof?

But I duno. Does anyone know anything about them or if they even work?
