I noticed that normally when my acconditioner is on the fans seemed to be louder than the engine at idle.So The other day Looked under the bonnet to see both were spinning just not as loud.
Anyway went for about a 30km drive and notice my temp was going up above halfway and kept going up i pulled over and turned of car
opened bonnet the fan on the right wasn't spinning and overflow bottle was bubbling (boiling)
Do you think this relates to when i got cam seals etc fixed and or acc & water pump not working ?
cheers
Also this may sound dumb but my left fog light is brighter than the right
problem started when acc one did

Could be your water pump,DanXbix wrote:I noticed that normally when my acconditioner is on the fans seemed to be louder than the engine at idle.So The other day Looked under the bonnet to see both were spinning just not as loud.

Assuming it was brand new, failed pumps should be covered under parts warranty, and your mechanic should change it with another one for free.

assuming that ftos r the same as the other couple of FWDs that i've driving... when your air con comes on it automatically kicks in the fan as well... as in it automatically makes your fans go at the speed they r supposed to when u've reached opt temperture (i.e. if u sit in traffic with the air con off and window down, u might be able to hear the fans kicking in and out, when it kicks in it's because your temp just clicked over that point, then it kicks back down cos your temp dropped below that point).
what can happen sometimes is that the switch that kicks your fans into full is broken (happened a lot on a mate's pintara, eventually he just gave up on replacing it), these switches r normally open switches (which means when it's not activated it's not connected, so the fans only kick in to full when the temp thingo says its too hot and activate the switch, so when the switch is broken the fans dont work), however newer cars tend to have a closed switch for this now (which means it's constantly on unless activated, and the temp thingo keeps it activated until it gets too hot, so when this switch is on your fan's always on full, this is obviously the better way cos instead of cooking your engine u might have to replace the bearings in the fan one extra time out of god knows how long)... at least that's the case in some FWD cars i know, not sure about the FTOs though, since i'm only new to FTOs and i'm the kind of person that cant tell the diff between a nail gun and a spanner lol.
um... long story short, did u have the air con running when u over heated? if not then maybe it's just this switch. (this is the cheapest problem to fix lol)
p.s. since i've somehow made this extremly long winded, ADMIN feel free to edit this or delete it if it's stupidly not relavent lol.

Hi just checked engine codes and light flashed every second
so no problems their???
I have notice theres hardly any oil in the car (???)
and coolant was a little low
drove it around the block to opt temp and didn't go past half
The right fan only spining though.
I have a gpx when you guy first turn on your car (with Acon On) do both fans fire up?
Cheers

too many variables involved. There is not way you can possibly diagnoise this problem with your description.
With your AC on, sometimes both thermos are off depending on conditions.
How far above halfway did the temp meter go???
I highly doubt the overflow hat boiling coolant is it, the only thing I can think of is maybe a head gasket leak which in tern made it look like it was boiling but in fast was just bubbles from air getting into the cooling system.
Does the temp get to a certain temp then sort of stay at that level? Say like 3/4 and not get higher??
If so it will be one of the relays or switch responsible for one of the thermos. the fan switches on to cool the engine at a certain temp and the other one later on, when temps get too high. My guess is the thermo responsible for cooling at lower temps is not switching on, so obviously the termo for higher temps only switches on at high temps which in term stop the engine from overheating you get it??
If you were on a freeway when engine temps were getting too high, you can rule out termos. At speed thermos are bascially useless. Go for a driver on the freeway, if engine temps get too high then obviously its related to everything else, bar the thermos.
If your worried about your thermos, go for a drive to heat up cooling system, pop your bonnet, leave car on and wait a while untill temps get to about 3/4 if they do. If only one thermo is on, then you have a ralay/swtiched problem.
If they both switch on flush your radiator, change thermostat etc, if still overheats take it to a mechanic.

first top up the oil and coolant! When was the oil last changed? If u are unsure I would change.
The temp guage is 90 deg in the middle. Your thermostat will not be fully open until 95 deg so its normal for it to go past half way. But as Payaya said it should get to 95 and stop.
I think the thermo swtich kicks in at ~95 and turns off at 88 or somthing similar. The engine manual told me was something like that. So once this happens, say under idle it shuold go back to just under middle or middle.
Witht he air con on I think the second fan starts automatically. the thermo will kick in if it gets to the 95 degrees..
I suspect my water pump is on the way out...as on hot day, only on the fwy it can start to get hot. and stay hot. I have chnaged everything over the past few months. However until 60kmph driving, its fine even when the temp was 44 deg and my temp sensor said 50 deg outside!!!
