Ok so im a little un-educated on auto gear boxs .. So iv got abasic question ..
Im noticing my 1st gear is slipping a bit .. ie Its change from 1st to 2nd is a little slow ... and when in Tiptronic it ahh .. dosnt feel very sporty ... 2nd to 3rd feels fine , its quick and feel good in tip ... its just the 1st to 2nd change ... seems to almost even drop into neutral for a second before changing ...
My question is , is is just a simple case of having it tuned up when it goes in for a service next ? .. can they "tighten" something up , or retune the box so that its a snappier change ? ... or is this not possible without large work ? .. Also , if its fixed up , would that mean the tiptronic would work cleaner aswell ? ..
Bout the best thing you can do is change the fluid in it... get some good stuff. Im sure Redline or similar companies make auto trans juice.
Otherwise its big $$$ for auto trans headers tuned up with torque converter stiffening.
Alternatively, you could also try reseting your ECU (gearbox one as well) by just pulling the battery for a while. The box will then 'relearn' your drving style.
Ill add to that. Make sure you get the correct oil for your box or you will stuff it. Mitsubishi use a special M rated oil for that purpose. Was talking to the mechanic the other day and he said that if you dont use the exact right stuff, you'll screw it. I know Valvoline make it (among others). The bottle should basically say 'especially for Mitsubishis'

Oh and did I say it is expensive stuff!
Dunno what M rated oil is but the oil u ned for your tip box is SP rated. Check the oil thread for more info.
The SP spec has more fricton modifers than a Dextron III spec.
not fussed persoanlly. It need to be HFM - High Friction Modified - ATF fluid.
If you decide to use a non-SPIII fluid, make sure that the torque converter locking and tranny shifting remain the same as before. If not, you should dose it with a fluid converter. Abrubt shifting and TC shudder means that you need more fluid convertor.
SPIII fluids are highly friction modified more so than Mercon/Dexron.
Enough HFM'd = smooth shifts and smooth TC lookup.
You should also reset the TCM when you switch or change your ATFs. This will eliminate any confusion caused by the learned/adaptive transmission parameters.
A 5L bottle of the stuff from Mitsi costs about $20. I dont see the point in using anything else considering this meets the spec.
Fair Enough. Cant say I know that much about it myself. Only repeating what I was told. Your option is also much cheaper as the bottle I bought was a 1 Litre top-up bottle and it cost $20. Although I guess it was the same as what was already in the box I suppose and oils should not be mixed....

dont mix different spec'd oils..ppl reckon its bad...but some ppl thin its ok. I dont mean different visc. ratings..different specs.
In the end if it seems to sh*t ok...then it cant be too bad. But I wouldnt risk it perosnally for the price of a new tip box.
