engine electrics died

Post by tarkus »

Hya

friday night driving normal and the engine electrics cut out. Tried to re start and there was NO dash lights, starter motor would turn the engine over, but not starting.
Checked the fuses all OK. Tried to start and it did. Ran OK all night, sat was OK. sunday started OK then engine cut out at 110 kms / hr on freeway( 8O not a good feeling 8O )
checked fuses again, all OK. tried to restart - got it going and drove slowly (40 kms) back home then it would not start at all this morning. Tow truck to auto electrician.

sugeestions up to now have been "rectifier" "earth connection". electrician is checking these later today.

Anyone had anything similar?

your rectifier is part of your alternator if i am correct. being that your alternator only charges your battery it should run fine untill your battery dies. However rectifers are reknowned for failing on FTO Alts.
I have no idea what that could be. Maybe fuel pump? or something to do with fuel?

OK guys (& gals) it all sweet. electrician just rang me.

It was a broken connection inside the imobiliser. re-soldered and all is good

Sorry didn't get to reply to you by the way. Just been way too busy with work and showing Chelly around Melb. Catch up soon though! It's good that you got that all sorted.
