Taga top conversion for the FTO

Post by fto12345 »

Hello,

Does any know where you could get a targa top conversion done?

I want to do this instead of the sun roof!

Any one?

In Sydney that is...

Thanks,

i'm quite certain chopping the roof off will require significant engineering because you are changing/compromising the structural integrity of the passenger cabin... who knows you might end up with a roll cage as well hehe...

You might also hit compliance / road worthiness and insurance issues. The roof is considered a major structual piece of the car and there are strict limitations as to what you can do to it.

I hate to break the bad news to you, either converstion can't be done on a FTO, cause to do a sunroof or targa top, it require a flat roof, & the roof of a FTO is curve in at the middle!

Yes there are FTO with factory sunroof, but if you look at them, you relize those roof are flat, not curved in!

Yes but you can also do an after market sunroof as well...

So why not Targa top then??

heehehe.....

I just want to know if there are any places that does these kind of conversions and see if they can do it or not....
That's all...

I do know few things why doing so isn't so good, but just wanted to know none the less.

Thanks,

FTO338,

Did they give you any reason why they couldn't put a sunroof on your car?

Also, if don't get this targa top done then I might want to put a sunroof...
Any good places to go for this one then?

Thanks,

You cant put a sun roof in a non sunroof fto because unlike the factory fitted sunroof fto's the roof is not flat! wheras on the factory fitted sunroof fto's the roof is flat ie:they are different profiles. If you did fit a sunroof to an fto because of the different profile of the roof ie: the dip in the middle it would probably leak. Even if you were to fit the genuine fto sunroof it would still leak.

Hmmmmm i think i've already said this once, & i hope i don't need to repeat again, the FTO which comes with factory sunroof got flat roof!!! 8O

ohhhh & i love to c someone going 2 fill their roof up just 2 put a sunroof in, cause i really want to see how long before all those mechanical parts will fall off!!!!! don't forget the cost & the weight added which will change the handling of the FTO

Look ppl I've got a solution for those who really really want a sunroof no matter what!! Tell those sunroof company ppl to raise the sunroof 1 to 2 inchs off the roof, so therefore the seals surrounded the sunroof will block all the water from turing your can into the biggest MOVING FISH TANK reguardless the roof is curved/dipped!!!!

& of course it will look like the hump on a camel!!!

hehehe, i got a better solution - trade in your current FTO for a sunroof-equipped model straight from the factory (if you can find one). 8)

The only reason why I asked is because I saw a while back an FTO which has a dipped factory roof with a sunroof on it.

I'm sure I wasn't mistaken because I could literally see the sunroof part on the side where it dips in the front of the sunroof, in the middle of the roof....Can you picture it?

I have seen one and if one has done it I don't see any reason why I couldn't get it done.

I should have asked him to stop so I can ask where he got it done. But this was when I wasn't even thinking of sunroofs....
:(
Let me see if I can find a place in sydney...which would be to my surprise as well but you never know I guess..

Hehehe OMG I just pissed my pants...

Hey if the water was heated and there was a snorkel out the sunroof and of course a hot little crumpet of a mermaid in the passenger seat then I think I could put up with having a 'Moving Fish Tank'...
