here's my half finished fibre glass glove box:

i'm going to put a layer of weaved fibre glass over the top, for that carbon fibre look, only this is going to be translucent and white

and lights behind it to come on with the door.

what do you guys think? i just got it finished and got excited lol

Already got it half done... but nervous about fibreglassing... lol

eep... havent worked on something that big lol

um... what u planning on doing? just chopping it and adding pieces in weird places? man have you stripped all the paint off yet?

that's more working with bog than fibre glass, dont worry man u'll be fine
i remember reading that a whole ago...

i think all u'll have to watch out for it to sand the bog before it dries completely, make it so much easier.

and if u have to fibreglass it (maybe from behind to strengthen it) then just make sure u dont one layer at a time otherwise it might bubble

although i'm not sure what's the deal with his paint... do u know if he sanded the paint back or just bogged over the top of it?

and how did he paint it...

Well when im done, im taking it to DMD to fix up some cracks in the plastic and give it a respray...
So painting is no biggie...

If i stuff the bar, then i was going to buy a new one anyway... lol

made a mould of it with fibreglass (very thin layer) then once it dried removed the glove box and just laid a couple of layers of fibreglass on the back of the fibreglass mould.
now i'm just sanding it back to get a good finish and filling in a few air bubbles at the edges, then when i'm satisfied with that then i'll put a thin layer of weaved over the top for the 3d carbon fibre look

yeah i've just spent all of yesterday trying to find a syringe so i can use it to inject resin into the bubbles, asked everyone i can think of (dont think the chemist will just sell me a syringe lol), and then tured out my mother has a stash of them o_0'.. pretty sure she stole them from work lol.
so it's back on track now, should have it finished (without the lights for now) in a couple of days, i'll post a pic then

sorry to steal this post.. but im doin exact what the guy has done in the uk.. with billets and stuff..
but i wanna strengthen it with fibreglass. but im a noob to this crap..
where would i be able to buy sheets of the stuff and what type of glue do i use? can i get that stuff from bunnings ??

u can get the fibreglass from bunnings, it costs a little bit more than if u get it from a fibre glass place (boat places i guess) or off ebay, but for what u'll need you might save $5 or $10, probably not worth the leg work with boat places or waiting with ebay.

i'm wrking my way up to the front bar (gonna d a few more interior panels to get the hang of it then move up to bigger bits), if u want to strenthen it with fibre glass, just fibre glass right over the back of it (if u r anal about it u can sand the paint back and prep the surface by sanding the crap out of it, but i doubt it's needed), if u r going to be fibre glassing over the front of it as well.... good luck sanding it smooth lol, it took me 2 days with a finishing sander and 36 grit sand paper to get mine like that lol

ah ok .. yeah im gonna be using it from behind the bumper and then boggin the crap out of it .. i wont be sanding the fiber glas. il just wack bog on top of that then smooth it down to get the smooth finish.
how much would it be for a sheet that and what size ? and what glue is it exactly. and price if u can remember

just over $20 for a square metre of chopped, and the "glue" is fibre glass resin lol, and i think it's about $15 for 500g, and $6 for about 20ml of hardener (catalyst, but i think i spet it wrong lol)
prep where ever you are going to fibre glass by cleaning it (make sure there's no dirt or grease), and sanding it a bit with a rough-ish sand paper wont hurt either (give the fibreglass somethign to hold on to)

only do one layer of fibreglass at a time when u r going it, otherwise it might get air bubbles in it (i suppose air bubbles make it weaker).

and whatever you do, spend the few $$ extra and buy some gloves, goggles and a mask, trust me, you'll thank me for it after the first time you touch the fibre glass lol (i didnt

and i still have bits of fibreglass stuck in my hands lol), overalls or long sleeve and long pants will help too.

wow how lazy was i lol, just realised that it's taken me 6 weeks to eventually get my ass into gear to finish the glove box off lol

here are some pics, just took them after i put the final layer of fibreglass, still have to wait for it to dry then mess around with fitting, but all in all the hard part is finished, all that's left is the fiddly part.

obviously the brown packaging tape and newspaper backing will go after it dries lol

notice the patern?

lol, it's in the Cant Be F***ed box atm.

i was up to version 4 with it, but there were still inperfections in the fibreglassing, which is not normally a problem, but since i want it to be translucent...

each stage has been getting slightly better, but i was doing it the lazy way, now i think i'll do it the proper plug - mould - piece way, which would take much longer.

atm, i'm going to use the rolling shell for parts to return my car's interior back to stock, i.e. unpainted panel pieces and put a glove box back in.

and after that i'm going to start making parts the proper way.

i'm actually suprised that u dug this thread up lol
