knocking

Post by Sugar »

hey guys, me .. again...

my car is sitting at the bottom on the driveway sad.

when i start it, it sounds like it is rattleing in the block, and when you give it any revs, it gets louder and louder.
i know it had a slight crankshaft seal leak, but im afraid what i am hearing now is rod knock.. as its getting worse.

just wondering what you guys recomend i do,rebuildthe block, with some head work or go for a half cut,

im kinda leaning towards the rebuild,as iknow everything will be fixed fromthere.

any idea's on how much thisis going to cost me? the 1st option is ok, mymate owns a performance workshop in syd,so thats no prob.

if it dosnt go to him, just after a rough bitof pricing.

it all depends on what is causing the noise, the knocking noise could be a big end bearing, a rattling noise could be a worn down piston or bore and the piston doesn't fit in snug anymore.

At work we usually end up buying short motors which is pretty much the block, crank, rods and pistons already fitted, we end up doing this becasue its more cheaper than rebuilding the engine as there is less labour, with the short motor all you have to do is bolt up your head onto it and put it back in the car, but I don't think it would be easy getting a 6A12 short motor as they aren't common, so might as well buy a whole engine, you can find a 6A12 mivec engine under $2000 and they come with warranty.
