Urgent help ... Please

OK people... Have noticed a bit of leakage on my garage floor... Put down some fresh newspaper and left the car there for the last 2 days...

Have checked just now, and there is a stain that is about as big as a dinner plate ... Maybe just a tad smaller....

Have checked the oil, and no droppage and has plenty of oil in her... I looked at a tank that sits up on the drivers side of the engine bay, just under my strut brace.. There is nothing written on the lid, but I think it is just a normal Jar lid ... I think it has to do with the Clutch maybe...

There is no fluid in there ... Either that or it is really low ... What the hell is meant to be in there ... Where do I get it, and how much $$$... Not sure if that is what is leaking, but it needs to be topped up ...

I checked power steering, fluid and it is fine ... Is there anything else it could be ???

I think thats the brake fluid.

That should be the brake fluid. The clutch one is almost touching the firewall, sort of behind the rear bank of the engine.

I think I know the one you mean ... That is a smaller one, and it is down a little lower...

So the question then is, what kind of brake fluid do I top her up with ... Is there a special DOT, as there is nothing written on it as it is not a brake fluid lid ... ???

If your not sure, just use a Dot 4 off the shelf from your local servo.

hrmm... that is def not the standard lid. However, if it leaked while sitting still, its unlikely that its out the lid as the car wasnt in motion. Check all your brake lines and the master cylinder. and the ABS system if you have one.

Untill its fixed, be extreamely careful. if you have a leak, heavy braking could blow a line or something, then your in trouble.

Possibly get a brakes and suspension place to look at it.

Yeah, it has got to be leaking around the brake lines I think ..

There was no leakage around the lid, and I felt around some of the lines up near the tank ... There was no leak there ... Unless it had all leaked out and dried ... But I doubt it ....

So I am not sure if the leakage on the garage floor is the brake fluid, or if it is oil ... Not sure what colour the brake fluid was... I hope that it is nothing major to fix... I guess if I made it down from Port Macq, then my drive down to Woollongong should not be a problem ... Will just have to be careful going down the mountain ... :cry:

Will get some DOT 4 stuff tonight, and when I pick up the coil overs, will see if they have an actual lid for the tank ....

Take a spare bottle of fluid.

Check your levels regularly and if they're down, keep it topped up.

Yeah ... Good idea ... There are some pretty bad hills heading down, so would hate to have no brakes... But with that being said, since the car did make it from Port Maq it should be no biggie...

I was also thinking that if it was leaking through the lines, there should be some evidence of this in the wheels ... Well one would think ... So I will try and see if I can see any spillage in the rims ... If that is clear, then I guess I will have to replace the whole unit which sits on the firewall area ... I think that will cost a bit though .... :cry:

It may have only just happened... So u may get 20kms down the road and discover u have no brakes

Leakage was there from the first night the car was in the garage though .. So I am guessing that if it is actually the brake fluid leaking, it was loosing the fluid on the drive home ...

But yeah, I took it for a drive around the block on the Monday night after I had noticed the leaking first off ... Brakes and everything were reacting fine ... That was when I checked the oil to make sure it was not oil ... Then the car was left for 2 days before I checked it, and found about the same amount of fluid on the fresh newspaper...

i'd say fill up your brakes anyway... they souldnt be below the low level.

If the fluid stays there and u still get a leak, then look at other possibilities.

There was still some in there... Just a fair bit below the min line ... So I topped her up ...

Had a look on the garage floor ... It does seem to be oil ... Lukas told me that he may have put in the wrong sump plug when he did the oil change the other day, so that could be what the leak is....

Will keep an eye on the brake fluid level and see if just jap have a spare lid for me on Saturday .... Used Castrol DOT4 ... Says it is a high performance one... Does DOT3, DOT4, and DOT5.1 ... Was only $10 for the bottle...

lol .. I was close ... lol ....

Should be looking at it all tomorrow ... Will go back to the garage tonight to see if the brake fluid has remained...

Also check to see if all your brake bleeder nipples are still attached. I've never known them to just pop off though. The pic really doesn't look like the brake fluid container unless they differed between models and engine types. I could have sworn that the brake fluid container was taller.

Well found the probs with the brakes.. Looks like it is leaking at the master... Has also eaten a fair amount of the paint ... :cry:

Have ordered a new master, sump plug, steering boot (is torn) ... And ...

Installed the D4 Coil overs... :D
