whirring noise @ idle

Hey guys -

bit of a weird one,

just got my car back from serivce, and noticed there is a strange 'whirring' noise coming from the engine bay.... when i rev a little this noise also increases (before being drowned out by the engine) and then as the revs drop the noise also decreases but is still there....

I can only hear it from inside the car! when I open the engine or stand outside I cant hear it at all......

Could be that a belt is too loose or too tight, although I would think you should be able to hear it outside the car.

do you have the raidio on at the same time? could be comming from speekers engin noise

^ agreed

sounds like engine induction noise. Try turning off your head unit and see if it's still there.

would depend on where the stereo is earthed but it is quite common, either that or check your oil and transmission fluid levels, make sure shes a wet pussy n not a dry biarch

Is it a High Pitch Whirl?? If so its probably one of your belts as ive got the same problem with mine

I dont think its oil as the car was just serviced -

its not air con either...

the stereo is an interesting one, used to have a mates car that used to do that through the stereo so might check that.....

turned off radio - and its not that..... the noise is still there.....

dont think its a belt, as belts normally screech? if my radio is turned up you definately cant hear this noise......

try this, turn of the stereo. and drive, after a few seconds, if the sound comes up, then its definatley your stereo. my mate had the exact same problems thanks to his DIY system set up, hence he got it professionally done and they changed all wires, made sure the wires werent cramped and soldered instead of PVC tape. as well as a thicker earthing wire.

It could be a bearing in one of the belt tensioners spinning up. Lube the bearings, but not the belts, with a llittel light oil and try again.

Definitely the alternator. In the inner coils are rubbing against something.

Nah, I'm pretty sure I'm getting that same noise. Its hard to describe, but pretty sure it isn't a belt or the sound system.

I only get it when the car is cold, goes away at about (or just before) the water temp swings up to normal (70 C -ish).
I've also got noisey tappets, but that's a diff noise altogether

my fto also has whirring noise at idle sometimes , but it doesn't happen all the time , when i rev it up ,the noise goes away ... anyone got idea about this problem???
