wttc,
u'll find a lot of useful information on here, and if you ar elooking, you should probably look in the cars for sale section on here, at least this way u will be able to find out a little bit more about the car than just what the seller is telling you lol

so do you know what u want in the car? i.e. sunroof? year/model blah blah...

just curious, where about in qld r u?

oh btw, if u use pink when you post again, i'm going to track you down, slap you for burning my retinas out lol

Thanks :)
I live in Maryborough, so there's nothing here, i'd have to proberbly go to Brisbane to find one, so looking here is a good idea!

I want one with a sunroof, for sure! I was just saying that i'd get one put in if there was'nt one already, black, not sure about year.

Lauren

Oh btw, changed it back to black ;)

um... u cant get a sunroof put in

well i guess never say never, but no one has done it, the roofs are different between the ones with sunroofs and the ones without. so if u r dead set on a sunroof then make sure u buy one with a sun roof.

and i think the 94-95 (i could be wrong about the yrs, search for it on this site if u want to make sure) models with sunroofs have a higher chance of getting rust on the roof due to the glue they used. so keep that in mind as well

just wondering, how much u looking to spend? btw from what i've seen on here, it seems that all the best $$ for value ftos might be outside this state :(

oh and thanks for changing it back to black, now ppl are going to think i was tripping when i posted about the pink/purple lol

edit: oh yeah, btw, i dont sleep lol

WELCOME To The Club

If insurance is going to kill you, you could always go for the fire and theft insurance ... Makes it a lot cheaper...

Welcome....

You certainly have picked a nice car to be looking for... and im not at all biased...

You would be joining the ranks of the best club * in australia and in particular the best state also.. :)

We have regular events here in QLD, and if you need help at all, just PM myself or Sammi and we can do our best to help you out.

When it comes to maintenance a lot of us use Joe and Ricks Mechanical down the coast... as he knows what he's doing.

And he wont overcharge...

If you're looking at buying an FTO try and get one of us to go with...

In particular Sammi and I can be extreamely usefull when inspecting an FTO as we know what to look for as far as problem areas.

I also deal with selling cars in my work, so im also a good negotiator... and Sammi can be a force to be reckoned with.

Regardless dont buy one without doing your research.. listen to the advice on these forums as a lot of us have been through all the dramas you can have...

saying that they're like any car and need maintaining...

Post up some links of any you're looking at. Chances are one of us has seen it or know the owner.

Also feel free to go to the QLD section and start posting... Be sure to fill out the Members database as it helps me to organise people in cruises.
If you dont feel comfortable posting up personal details, PM me them so we can update our database file.

If you feel the need to go for a drive in an FTO just come to a thursday night cruise or something.

Hell next week i'll even be likely to be driving mine again...

Get posting and have fun... A sense of humor is a must for this club. :)

um... sam, hate to break this to you bur she lives in Maryborough, 200 odd ks away from brissy mate lol

and thats a very suttle hint about insurance lol

it certainly will cost you an arm and a leg and possibly your first born because it's a grey import and your age. however what u have going for you is that you are a chick (unless i'm wrong lol, jk, but girls get cheaper insurance :() and probably where u live.

i'm asusming somewhere between $1-2k for full comp. a fair few of us only have fire and theft as that's only about $500, or if you are really tight (and brave) then be like me and dont have anything more than CTP lol.

but since u just turned 18, i'm assuming you dont have a lot of driving exp under the belt, i'd suggest gettign full comp for the first yr regardless of how much it costs. then depending on how confident you fell/how much u can afford etc you might want to change it or cancel it altogether later.

to find out exact prices just ring up some insurance companies and check how much its going to be. check the sticky in this section for who will insure you, cos most places like racq/suncorp/amii etc wont touch ftos, half of them dont even know what a fto is lol

hope that helps a little.

cheers.
Yang

Thank you all for all the great advice.
Im very new to all of this and i have heaps to learn

Im almost certain i'll have to buy one from Brissy too, they seem to be pretty rare, and there's pretty much no hope of me finding one close by.

Ive been looking at a few online, i should post up some links, that would be so helpful. coz really, i have no idea what im looking for.

Im looking at spending, under $15k for the car, but you know how budgets are, they are made to be broken ;)

I want full comp, for sure. Ive only been looking online so far, and i havnt found much, well except for a $4,000 quote

(Oh btw the reason girls get insurance cheaper is, we drive better!!)

Damn you girls... qld is quickly being invaded by female FTO drivers...

and so the debate begins!!! lol

Yeh theres not much selection up there...

If you look in the for sale on here everyone has to be honest (as you're selling to a bunch of FTO experts)

But you're best off getting someone to go with you...

Pm Sammi and I with your mobile and we can do what we can to help...

And i hope you're contemplating cruising down to brissy every now and then for some cruises.... :)

your girl... i'm assuming its your gf, not just your weekend alterego lol
is she younger? does she have a bad driving record? etc...
besides u are adding another person to the policy (as far as i can understand it, pro: u pay less excess if she crashes the car, con: u pay more on premiums)

from what i can gather, i'm going to like this lauren, she's online at the same spaz hr of the night/morning as me(i just looked at the post times lol).

lozzy, $4k for insurance is a bit too steap, doesnt matter how you put it, it's 1/2 to 1/3 of the cost of another fto lol, f*** that off lol, it's almost worth it to not insure the car if it's that much
surely u'll be able to get cheaper insurance. try using your parents or something on the policy (i.e. put the car in their name but have u as another driver), it didnt work for me, but it never hurts to try i guess.

definately get a quote for insurance before you commit to any car, at least that way you'll know how much u r up for.

make sure you put whatever car you are going to buy through a RACQ master check or something similar, some sellers might even pay for it if u ask nicely lol
i unfortunately didnt do that, and only a yr later reailsed there were more things iniciallly wrong with my car than i though, furtunately it's nothing serious nor expensive, but i was lucky in that sense.
even if u do get one of us to help you look over the car, i'd still suggest u get it checked out properly. it's well worth the couple hundred considering how much trouble it might save you.
