The INVECS tip gearbox was one of the best boxes availible when it was released and is still a very good one. I dont think yo can generally say they suck

Statement = True

The gearbox should be able to handle the power, as vip said, its an extremely good box.

18A4RE runs a 6a12 turbo making 140kw atw and he has a tip box

its not the box itself that is the hassle, its more to do with the torque converter...

nope actually they are very strong FTEvolution was running tip with his 6A13TT no dramas
of course it wont stand up to a constant beating like on the track but with mods that valandis is doing cant see any issues if anything it would break CV's as they are the weak point of drive terrain

Me thinks you have been a little misinformed over the capabilities of our venerable 4 speed Tip box.

I have been running with a twin turbo tiptronic FTO (standard box btw, contrary to original supposition) since approximately July 2006. It has done multiple drag day runs (culminating in my best of 12.9 @ 119) and the only problem I have encountered is one broken passenger side axle caused by the dif being a single spinner.

The seat of the pants dynos of myself and many other people estimate around 300 HP at the wheels, but we suspect that it is the torque figure being rather crazy that causes such rapid acceleration. The fact that a standard Tip 4 speed box with no more than a transmission cooler attached can handle all of that and be still running is a testament to the quality.

Seeing as Wikipedia is what it is (user generated) just take this as an FYI, nothing more:
Despite sharing its name with the previous system, the second version of INVECS was a radical development, based on Porsche's Tiptronic semi-automatic transmission technology.[5] As with Porsche's version it allowed for either a fully automatic mode, or a clutchless semi-automatic mode if the driver wished to control the up- and down-shift points. It also offered the same Adaptive Shift Control software which monitored and "learned" the driver's habits over time and adjusted the smoothness or aggression of the gearshifts to suit his or her driving style.[6] It was first implemented in the new Mitsubishi FTO in 1994.[2]
Check out the bolded part above; General consensus is that Mitsubishi brought rights to the technology that Porsche had been using, this culminated in the gearbox we use now.

I used to be of the opinion that "if it aint manual it aint worth it," that was before I drove my first FTO (was a GPX tip). The more power you throw through an auto box the better it is (as long as it is strong enough). There is a reason most of the top drag racers use auto boxes :)

EDIT!

I forgot to add the link to the Wiki site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INVECS

^^^^^ Couldnt agree more.

In fact, in all my time here I have never heard of anyone destroying there tip due to throwing to much power at it.

Did you not already have a tranny and oil cooler? Those early pics in the workshop had them mounted in front of the radiator. What happened to those? Did you have to sell them to pay for the job?

Sounds like you got pucked up the proverbial by the workshop, but I am glad you can finally see light at the end of the tunnel :)

She will be a beast.

Dropped the cam gears in to Envy today. When did you need them back by?

They can be ready in a day or 2 for just plain alloy centres, or if you want them anodised, they will take about a week. Your choice..

alrighty! so the new exhaust is going well...

everything is falling into place nicely. sort of.
lets just say man i hate living in tassie...

so the plan is: 15th Feb Car goes into Autocraft (my mechanics) cam seal which they damaged gets replace, cams are put in, verniers are put on (which i receive tomorrow!) thanks again bennoz for showing me a good spot to purchase them from! oil cooler, tranny cooler and oil catch can are installed. umm thats it for now. but i have no where to tune it. a respectable tuner down here is willing to learn the emanage system in order to tune mine but he might need it awhile. maybe if someone could recommend somewhere in melb i might bring it up there to get it tuned properly?
autocraft will do a road tune but i want this tuned properly on a dyno. and to see the power figures

but im excited for these cams! they better fit otherwise i will fly over to perth and knock dave out with them :) haha

oh and heres a pic of my sexy ass 8)
