Drive shaft boot

Hey all,

Looks like the inner drive shaft boot on my auto FTO has split again! Pain in the arse! I was wondering should I DIY as it's a pain to get my car to the mechanics due to work etc.

So it is hard to replace? I can just see the hub nut being a pain in the arse to remove. Where do I get a boot from if it is worth it?

What is the tie rod part number? Same as what other Mitsubishi??

yip inner cv boot is on here somewhere i posted it up awhile ago repco have it on database as i made them do it and cost was $45 from memory incl grease and ties

its just undoing the castle nut thats the bitch 32mm socket and a big arse lever is required. once done you can replace the actual boot without having to remove actuall shaft from box just a bit tight to get clips around but I have done on many occasions.

and tie rod shares same model as lancer and HJ galants from memory ;)

The procedure isn't all that hard, and if you say removal of the drive shaft is not required to change in the inner boot makes it even easier!

I just hate when I'm doing sh*t on cars and I can't remove the bolt, it pisses me off!

So you just stuck a metal bar over your breaker bar?

May give it a go tomorrow then! Hopefully the nut comes off or i'll prob kick the car off the stands haha.

Yeah did my tie rod ends and steering rack boots today, I got some lancer ones. So its 100% 32mm nut? I have to go buy one if I do decide to do it.

Just thinking how much of a pain it is taking your car to the mechanics and sh*t I might as well do it :evil:

yip 32mm and used a extension pipe on breaker bar but if you have decent compressor use the gun on it

CBF today! Too hung over.

I got an electric impact gun that does 250NM may try that first and if that fails I might invest in an air impact gun. Would a supercrap gun get it off you reckon? One of the 60 dollar ones?

How do you get the new boot on? I got the bolt off. Looks like I have to take off the outcv? Those clips are a c**t to remove. Do you need a special tool for it?

just cut the clips and remove old boot

put end over driveshaft (will need good circlip pliers to remove circlip then can remove the three ball style bearings)
put new boot on then reassemble bearings and fit onto cv end and do up with new clips (dont forget to grease and remember its just the boot that holds the two pieces together

Oh you saying as soon as I rip off the inner boot all I have to do it remove the circlip and the shaft comes out?

Would the below do?

I think I have a pair of these would it do?

Or do I need one of these?

thats what you need but think a better pair than those will be needed, or you can break off old circlip and replace (cheap) but you will need need some circlip pliers to put new one on

as soon as you remove old boot they will separate

Yeah cheap circlip plyers suck arse. Busted my set in 15 seconds, went & bought a good set.

I'm an idiot. I had a pair of circlip pliers and noticed it after I bought a pair from Repco!!

The biggest bastard were the bands that came with the CV boots they are a prick! Ended up leaving my car in the driveway for 5 days because I could not be bothered anymore. Ended up getting a strap tightening tool which I should have invested in from the start!

yeah forgot to mention those tools are handy but could of used cable ties they work just as good
