4000 rpm

Post by Dave1971 »

Hi,

New to the forum, and have problems with my GR FTO.

For some unknown reason, my FTO won`t rev past 4000 rpm while driving it appears to be bouncing around the 4000 rpm in every gear.

Has anybody had any similar problems that could help me out.

Let it warm up first. The Mivec has a progressive rev limiter (like in the M5) so that you can't flog the sh*t out of the motor while it's cold. Let it warm up and you should be fine.

If this doesn't work, have you recently disconnected the battery? I used to find that mine wouldn't hit Mivec for a few days after the ECU had been reset.

Sorry guys, its not a mivec or gpx.

The fault occurred from the following below.

I haven`t really used my GR for the last 2 weeks or so, got in it for the first time and noticed the battery was dead. Got the jump leads on her and every think fired up, been driving around today without any issues. I decided to put my foot down as the traffic was a pain to get out of a junction and when the car hit 4k rev it was stuttering like mad, i released my foot of the accelerate and it proceed to go into 2nd,3rd and 4th.

I tried it again before and it does it in any gear, anybody had a similar experience.

A few other people on another forum, have mentioned it might be a problem with the TPS sensor and also the engine temp sender.

Where will i find that on the car, strange thing happened today when it went past 4000rpm 8O done it a few times. I had been in traffic for a bit, so am wondering if it might be a temperature related problem but open to other advice.

I couldn`t get the codes, as the tester didn`t work so i will have to go to the garage on Monday. Any more ideas to what could be causing this?

mate sounds like a sensor
its either not getting enough fuel/spark or electricity
or is in a safety mode. could be ignition failure sensor/TPS possibly even cam sensor or just ECU packing up

Error code check should discover issue

1, But what sensor.
2, It must be getting enough spark / fuel other wise it wouldnt run properly.
3, How can i see if its the TPS.
