well, u know the funny thing, i dont even have that aerial thing at the back ... dont know why... only a few FTOs dont have it, but i still get perfect reception becuz the aerial is relocated in the rear view mirror.

im actually quite happy mine is at the back because it ruins the smooth back

All FTO's have a secondary ariel located in the heated rear screen, some only have this (mine included) and it works fine - there are actually 2 seperate ariel leads so you can remove one of them completely...

It was an option. The person who first bought your car from Mitsubishi had the option of either an electric antenna or one built into the rear windscreen.

The rear windscreen antennae aren't as good in terms of reception but they keep the lines of the car cleaner.

Hey, i donno if it's my deck or what, prob is.

When i play CD's my arial at the back still comes up... Is there a way of making it come up only on radio? OR do i need to talk to kenwood, cos it's their head unit.

Boris, most units power up the antenna when they are turned on. There is a wire from the head unit to the antenna which does this. An alternative would be to disconect this wire from the head unit and connect to a manual switch, then you could control it yourself.

ANBU_fto, you won't get TV reception by using the rear windscreen antenna, and yes, your radio reception will be less, but you'll generally only notice this in specific areas (it's more a range issue). I was under the impression that the rear windscreen antenna was an option so you'd have to replace the whole rear windscreen :( (I could be wrong)

I think the windscreen antennae looks just like the rear demister, just a few lines of wire on the windscreen below the rear window break light, then a gap, then the demister itself.
LED ALL the things.

whats the point of getting rid of the antenna anyway, it'll still be there even if u unwire it, if u take it out it'll leave a hole in your panel =/

very true! how did we all overlook the obvious! 8O

I guess you could always get it patched up, but i'd question whether the $$$ spent on a new rear windscreen and panel work would all be worth it. It seems a little extreme.
