Shot up A/C (For Dstocks too)
The worst possible time for this to happen.
Just came back today with the a/c working just fine. Turned off the ignition and heard a loud hissing noise...like a gas leak kinda sound. Popped open the bonnet and saw something leaking at the area just above the front bar. Waited for the hissing noise to stop, turned on car engine and a/c....warm air started coming out. I got a feeling its my condenser that is gone...any other opinions? Other than that car is running fine. Question now is, is the FTO condenser same as a lancer or mirage??
DStocks if u are looking at this, do u happen to have a spare condenser lying around...pretty much want this fixed up with summertime starting already....
Thanks a lot guys

Wow... they don't just 'pop' like that... check your front bar to see if someone had reversed into you??

Well the front bar is alrite...just had it resprayed 4 weeks ago and there is no damage or watsoever. Alignment also seems rite. Mech said the condenser is pretty shot and told me tat someone had knocked into it before as the condenser is misaligned. So prob need a new one...zzzz. How to check whether the hoses or lines has failed?? All i can see is just gas and some stuff coming out once i turn on the a/c...and after a while nothing else as the gas has all runned out.

I was just about to say I didnt have one, but just realised that that isnt technically correct. I took the condensor off the ute last weekend (which required the gas to be drained). So I dont really see why I cant rob the condensor as well. Wont be able to get it out before the weekend though.

Ok Just got my condenser. (Thanks Dstocks). Was looking up the DIY section but couldnt find anything on it how to replace it. Reckon its an easy job because I done wanna spend 200 bucks on getting it done by the mechs. If anyone can provide a step by step guide would be much appreciated.
Oh btw does anyone has a spare bulb for the wiper washer dash light??

Re: Shot up A/C (For Dstocks too)
- Remove radiator cap
- Drain radiator from plug on bottom (drivers side)
- Remove radiator hoses
- Remove 2 support brackets holding radiator to car (2 x 12mm bolts each, 1 on each side of the car)
- Unplug thermo fans (1 on drivers side, 1 on passenger side)
- Lean radiator towards engine a little & pull up to remove (be careful not to loose rubber footings)
- Undo 2 x 10mm bolts on condenser joining pipes (1 on drivers side, 1 on passenger side)
- Undo 2 x 10mm bolts holding condensor to the car (just near where you removed the radiator support brackets, 1 on each side of car.)
- Remove condensor by leaning towards engine slightly & pulling up.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Reassembly is the reverse, only difference is you will need to refill & bleed your cooling system & have the A/C lines regassed.
