what is wrong with my car?
Okay so i let my brother drive my car to central coast (around 2 hour drive). When he got back he told me that when he was driving my FTO would start to decelerate no matter how much you accelerate or change gears until it stopped. This continually happened and he overcame it by turning off the car and turning it back on whenever the problem occured and it would drive a certain distance until it did it again. I have had my mitsubishi FTO GPX 96' for roughly a year now and i remember encountering this problem around 10 months ago, i think its to do with long distance driving and heat but it does not make sense :s?
also my FTO has only done roughly 70,000km.

Re: what is wrong with my car?
do you think its my fuel filter?
im gna get it serviced but i dno if they will b able to find the problem as my FTO drives fine now. its happened twice, both on hot days where it has been driven for a couple of hours, but it doesnt make sense for a car to play up when its a hot day and its driven for a couple of hours :s

Re: what is wrong with my car?
Is your air filter clean only thing I can think of not enough air getting in and being a hot day air is less dense
But at 100 110 sitting at 3k revs surely it would use less air then street driving hitting mivec
No idea error codes would still be listed till there reset won't they or do they reset when you turn the car off ??

Re: what is wrong with my car?
i guess i should check my air filter but it still seems odd to only kick in on hot days when driving for a couple of hours..
i asked my brother and he wasnt sure if any error codes were going off and i didnt take notice the first time it happened to me because it was back when i first got my car.
Im assuming they reset when i turn off my car because i would of noticed it by now.
i just hope they find the problem when it gets seviced and fingers crossed its not expensive because i gotta get 2 new front tyres and plan on installing a GP version R spoiler on my car very soon

Actually, are both your thermo fans working. Dont know if that could cause a problem with over heating.

Was it a shuttering then stop? Fuel pump probably is on its last legs.

Re: what is wrong with my car?
That sounds like some kind of fuel blockage to me.

Re: what is wrong with my car?
That was my initial thought. Id start with that. Nice and cheap and not too long to replace. Probably due anyway.
