Idling at 1500

Hello fellow FTO owners.
I just wanted to ask here before I took my car to a mechanic.
Yesterday I let my friend borrow my car overnight as his is getting fixed, he brought it back to me this morning and it is idling at 1500rpm. I asked him if he did anything to it and he told me that he revved it to 6000rpm while in neutral after idling it for 5 minutes.

When I turn the key to the "ON" position, the buzz you normally hear is softer than it was before, when I turn the air con on half way the revs drop to about 1250 and when on full down to 1000.
There is also fuel spraying out of the exhaust.

I would really appreciate any help as I am currently stressing out.

EDIT: The oil cap smells like petrol.

When my car's cold it idles a bit higher until it gets to running temp.

When the air-cons off and it's just idling it sits ~700RPM.

Air-con usually pushes my revs up a bit.

As for the petrol out the exhaust, that sounds bad. Most likely an issue with combustion so I'd be looking at my spark plugs and leads first.

My friend said that right after he revved the car to 6000rpm it just shut off and when he tried starting it would start then immediately turn off and had no BUZZ at all when you turn the ignition to the "ON" position (there is a faint buzz now). He tried a few minutes later and the revs were going up and down by themselves from 0-1000. Tried again after a couple of minutes and stayed on 1500rpm and would not go lower when at idle unless the air-con was turned on. I did not have this problem before.

Take it to a mechanic and get your friend to pay for it.
Also if your friend is reving your car up to 6000rpm (well telling you only up to) in neutral and it would not have to had chance to warm up fully, I would not be letting them drive your car again.

First thing would be to get them to check the stepper motor.

i just recently had the similar problem, revs at 1500, sometime turns off an wont start, in the end it was my MAP/boost sensor that is located in the middle of the firewall in the engine bay
and also, i changed the stepper motor an it did not fix it, maybe it might be the same problem or it might not

Turn down engine speed with idle screw. If it does not go down, you prob have a vacuum leak.
