Auto transmission issues

Post by spicy01 »

Hey guys,

I've been having some minor issues with my transmission, especially during warming up the car. It's been getting slightly worse over the past month, so here I am on the help forums.

Basically when I'm driving off down my street, shifting feels a bit jolty. Not the usual little jump you feel when gears shift. Especially in 3rd gear, there's about a half second delay before I can feel the gear shift in. There are no clunking sounds or grinding sounds.

Another thing I should mention is something that happens occasionally too, during warm up. When the car decides to downshift as I step on the gas, the car revs as if it were on neutral. If I let off on the gas and let the gearbox complete shifting it's all fine.

When the car is at operating temp there are no issues, no late shifting etc. only when the car is warming up.

I'm not sure if its as simple as changing transmission fluid, because I had that done on my last service about 6-7000 kms ago. I checked the fluid and it smells very slightly burnt, so I'm not sure if the mechanic did a proper job. Hopefully it's not an issue with the actual gearbox components.

The mechanic might have used the wrong type of transmission fluid.
LED ALL the things.

In that case, would replacing it with the correct fluid asap stop these issues? Also, what is the possibility that the gearbox is damaged?

I'm not sure what fluid the mechanic used, but I'm certain it was not Dextron III.

If they changed it at all......

Its been known to happen before. Charge you for it, but not actually do it (its not something youd be likely to check). Not saying this has been done, but its not out of the question either.

Invest in a transmission cooler. My car use to shift bad when warm but a cooler has fixed everything.

I believe the stock cooling for atf is sh*t.
