UAS and HKS filter question.
car got a full service today, and the mechanic mentioned that my filter is completely dirty even after cleaning it.
i was wondering if i was able keep the UAS pipe but buy a HKS filter?
does that make sense?
if not are there any other good air filters i can buy that will allow me to keep my UAS pipe?

Re: UAS and HKS filter question.
The HKS has a soft rubber inlet of 3"
The UAS pipe has a diameter of 4", and silicone is soft... You might need a 4"-3" reducer of hard material to mate the two together.
My UNI filter is getting dirty, and the options I have is to use the stock airbox but ditching the ram pipe(restrictive) with a K&N panel filter, or get a 4" inlet K&N Pod with a 4" dunny pipe from bunnings to mate the UAS pipe and K&N pod...

Re: UAS and HKS filter question.
Can use any filter you like. Personally, for the UAS pipe, I'd just go get a pod filter with a 4 inch mouth, then just use a 4 inch bit of dunny pipe as a joiner.
Thats what I've done on the misses car:

hey bennoz,
Do you find that you get better performance with your open air filter, and not a CAI box?

Re: UAS and HKS filter question.
^^technically you will get better performance if the pod is boxed properly and fed with cold air properly.
Cold air is denser than warm engine bay heat air

Re: UAS and HKS filter question.
i know this has been covered before, but can i just get any K&N filter and put it in and it will give me the same performance results?
or should i get a specific one? do they all do the same job?

*Shrugs* Eh, supposedly. I've got the feed coming up under the filter there you can see, it comes direct from the front bumper.chr15j4m35 wrote:hey bennoz,

When you're splitting hairs like 2-3kws, I'm not that fussed... especially when your other car is twin turbo, performance for the misses isn't really a crucial thing

Re: UAS and HKS filter question.
Just grab a 4 inch pod. I'll fit it up for ya if you want. I've got a length of 4inch bog pipe here to make the adpator from, compliments of Subby.gpx000 wrote:yeah thats what im planning to do, but i go into autobarn and there are a million types of filters.

What piping have you used for the feed? (Where did you get it from?) Any pics of how you've got it set up?Bennoz wrote: I've got the feed coming up under the filter there you can see, it comes direct from the front bumper.

Re: UAS and HKS filter question.
Just flexible tube. You can get it from any Auto One / Super Cheap / Repco tyep store.
Pull the front bumber off, remove the factory pipe, its sh*t, & just feed this one up into the existing hole.
Its the same 3 inch diamtre & actaully 'threads' into the hole like a screw if you twist it in clockwise.
Then just use some cable ties to hold it in place just behind your mesh.

Re: UAS and HKS filter question.
Excellent.. Although I don't have any mesh (Kansai Bar), and seeing as though I've already removed the old intake pipe (it was rubbish, you're right). I'm going to see if I can thread it in without removing the bar!Bennoz wrote:Just flexible tube. You can get it from any Auto One / Super Cheap / Repco tyep store.

However, I'm not 100% sure where to place the end of it, but I guess it is just trial and error.
Thanks Ben.

Re: UAS and HKS filter question.
put it in that little rectanglularish hole just below your indicator pod...
Or just let it point to the ground but slightly pointing forward like mine
HEy Bennoz!!! Can I tag along with these boys or something ? Im anxious to have my filter replaced! I'll get the case ready and errthing
I swear, i think my filter is a little clogged, I gunned it on 2nd gear out of a corner once and i seriously felt my car cough! almost hit my head on the steering wheel in that split second
Not the first time it happened too

Re: UAS and HKS filter question.
a lot easier to get a short length of aluminium 4inch pipe since it comes in standard sizes used for intake piping and air filters.
I would go the K&N or smiilar style filter.
Repco sell TFI ones for a decent price so just get one from there.
About $30
