Couple quick quesitions.. I'm looking at replacing the stock intake pipe with silicone piping, so just getting confirmations and opinions.
Firstly just want to confirm that the size out of the engine is 3"?
Secondly this is what I'm thinking about setting up as a design:
Thoughts.. and if anyone has a good/cheap supplier of silicone piping that'd be really helpful. (I've just been doing ebay research atm)
pretty sure it is 3in
Problems
going from 4in down to 3in will compress the air making it hotter ( altho will prob have the added affect of pulling more air in like a vacume )
Putting pipe inside will distort the air and will prob slow it down slightly but worse would be the distorted air current if you do put pipe in make sure its thin or sand the edges down to alow it to pass threw easyer
As for silicon piping I think it was gotboost who can get it if I remember rightly
That's just my 3am 2cents might be me just talking sh*t but even the smallest thing can screw with air flows
Yeh I was thinking shrinking from 4" to 3" will increase pressure, which would force more air into the system, hence creating better airflow yes? Lol
I didn't think of sanding down the internal PVC Piping, not a bad idea.
So would this be a good setup?
I was thinking about that too except I want it attach the stock airbox then flexi pipe attach to it and run that down somewhere. Just haven't found the right place to place it yet. I am running on pod now and i really think the pod is sucking in to much hot air.
SchumieFan wrote:so you have the factory intake pipe with a standard 4 inch pod? brace it and box it... you wont get anymore power out of that mod
Yes.. I have it semi boxed (i.e. heat shield), I just need to run a feeder pipe. So you don't think upgrading the intake piping is worth it? (I've heard the stock pipe is very restrictive)
The theory was so I could secure the box at the top too.. However it didn't really work out that way, but still had the material for it, so I guess it is there until I decide to put in a feeder pipe and then put a solid top on...
Seriously FTO stock intake is more than sufficient. It shows having a modified intake pipe plus a POD filter does stuff all for the FTO. If anything the POD does most.
I've got my POD inside my stock airbox. Shove a POD inside the stock box leave the intake and be done with it imo. The standard piping does not look restrictive at all. The intake pipe after the filter looks smaller than the intake before the filter. I see some cars with double/triple the capacity of the FTO and their intake pipes are the similar size!
Hmm.. ok,
I'm thinking I will still upgrade it (just for the fun of it), but I may do I few things before I do that now. (it has been lowered down the list)
Thanks
Using the search button will lead to all manner of varied air intakes & wonderful setups we've trialled over the past 9 years this forum has been running
And for the recond, dyno tests showed a 4kw gain with a decent filter & a 4kw gain with a decent pipe.
Don't take any notice of these old cronies in here yellling from the bleachers that it does nothing, they've been here & done this & have clearly forgotten the enthusiasm of youth.

Haha thanks Ben,
Will do some more research into it..
(What do you think of this plan?)
I think i remember seeing a 4" silicone 90deg pipe at western filters blacktown but not sure if it was 100mm(4") or 90mm - there was no label saying so.
As for the reducer, i tried looking before, but did not try hard enough. Maybe a reducer dunny pipe from bunnings? Maybe western filters can even help you with the reducer too...
97 GPX Icelle Blue
I cant stop driving her!
...and when im not, im looking at her!

FTO[For The Orgasm]
like For The Win!, but more hardcore...

Thanks man, I've found a few on ebay that look alright.. Just have to find the budget to do it first.. lol
I should go for a drive down to western filters and have a look at what they have though.
