Friction-y sound

Post by spicy01 »

When I'm driving at 60+ kph, I can hear this sort of friction sound coming from the front of the car. The best I can describe it as is the sound of brakes when coming to a stop. The sound starts to happen after I let off the gas.

I have recently had my wheels balanced, in which my mechanic found that my tyres had been rotating the wrong way, and hence he changed them the right way. The sound started happening after the balancing was done.

Things I have checked:

Cleaned off rotors, and checked clearance between pads and rotor.
Checked for debris at brakes.

I also took the car back to my mechanic, who put me on the hoist, suspecting a wheel bearing issue. The bearings were fine, but I noticed that when the car was off the ground, there was no noise, even at 100+ kph on the hoist.

Any ideas?

Brakes make noise when stopping? Don't think so.

Maybe the frequency of tyre changes but brakes are not meant to be noisy.

Alright, but surely when you are braking there are different sounds to when you aren't braking? In any case, its the best I can describe the sound as.

Also, the sound is sometimes louder when the steering is at certain angles.

Dunno about braking noise but if it's a making a woosh woosh woosh noise and gets louder when loading up the wheel eg around the corner then it's most likely a bearing. Bearings need to be loaded up sometimes so spinning it when cars off the ground means nothing.

Could also be a tyre that's turned into a 50 cent piece so put the space saver on the noisy tyre and see if it makes a difference.

Friction-y sound

It could be back lash in the gear box or drive shafts as well if it's happening when you back off the accelerator and changes when you turn

Thanks for further replies.

Just to refresh the issue, the sound now occurs between 65-80 kph, and disappears after 80.

The car has done 125K kms.
