Re: idle problems
my engine just died on my at the lights last night. Managed to limp home and it kept dying while parking. Have to keep revving to keep the rpm up. I had the same problem like a year ago and problem solved after cleaning the stepper motor.
Hope this trick will work again.
Im thinking....stepper motor is connected at the intake. So if the stepper motor gets dirty, its possible to be caused by dirty air coming in. My stainless steel mesh Simota filter might be the culprit which is not doing a good job in filtering out the intake air.

Re: idle problems
If you've already cleaned it once a year ago to get it to work, I'd be inclined to say the steppers f**ked... time for a new one.
I've never ever seen a stepper so dirty that it can't operate...

Re: idle problems
I will still clean it up nevertheless.
the idling just got very low (roughly 200rpm), and sometimes stall the engine. Could it be just the stepper motor or could be something else?
Just need to be really careful when driving home tonight

Re: idle problems
Just buy a new stepper motor they are $100 delivered
That way it's a piece of mind to know if the stepper motor is the problem or not.

Re: idle problems
Easy way to determine your stepper is stuffed is when you turn the ac on rpm does not increase to compensate for the load

Re: idle problems
The cleaned stepper only works for one day. Luckily the new stepper arrived and it's all fine now

Re: idle problems
i replaced mine before, so i still have the old one if u want to come take it for a try, cause in the end the problem was my MAP sensor that fuked, (which i didnt need to change my stepper) so i guess my old stepper is still good?
But if your car is a gpx, would it be the idle screw? mine died before like that and it was my idle screw.

Re: idle problems
My mechanic Played with idle screw but still seems a bit off. I think I'll need to get this thing called a stepper motor. Maybe it will solve all my issues.

Re: idle problems
Yeah, get from Cyberspace Auto. Its on vacation will end of month but they are the cheapest. Im in a hurry to get it so i paid $134 for it.
Heard stepper motor is one of Mitsu weak link, not just FTO. So getting it change or cleaned once in awhile is a good thing.
By the way, camskill website mentioned whenever stepepr motor is replaced. The idle needs to be adjusted again.
2000rpm when cold and tune the idle screw to 800-900 when warmed.
Is that it? Does it need to be further tune by some diagnostic tools?
