So was waiting at the traffic lights when this Kluegar in front of me decided to reverse...yes u heard it right...REVERSE at the damn traffic lights to switch lanes. Needless to say...his tow bar punchured my front bar and there is a big gaping hole in it. Luckily i'm fully insured but the question is, will the insurance company replace it with the original pre face lift front bar or the exact same one because Khunjeng fitted a post face lift front bar on my 95 FTO when I bought it. Next question do I need to source for the post face lift front bar or let the panel beater handle everything? I really dunt want them to replace it back to the pre face lift one because that defeats the whole purpose of getting buying the car in the first place
It does depend on your policy wording. Generally if the repairer can't source the right bar, the insurance company will offer you a cash settlement for you to go away and repair the car yourself.
They will only try to fix the bar you are insured for. If you told them that you had a post facelift bar, then they will try to replace it with the same.
Why are youo even contacting your insurance company. You should have gotten his details and he should just pay you cash for it as insurance would probably be more expensive excess rather than just paying to get it fixed.
Well first of all I do not want the hassle of getting a quote and meeting up to get the cash. Thats why I pay comp insurance so that i would not have to go thru the trouble of chasing the money. He is from SA and drove an intersate car so by the time i'm free he would have left state already. Well I'll call the insurance co up tomorz and see what they say. If they cant get a post facelift I'll just get the cash from them and do it up myself. Anyway he is paying for it so I don't care. Next yes the front bar was post facelift when the accident happened. Just wondring if the insurance co would use a pre facelift instead for repairs.

If you were insured for the post facelift, then that's what they will try and get. If not then in theory they should try and get a pre facelift one. You could always speak to the repairer and ask them to get a post facelift bar (if you weren't insured for it) and pay the difference if there is one.
Lol thanks guys. Spoke to a couple of the panel beaters just now. Both of them said u can have pretty much what u want. But they will get the exact same one as a replacement And I get a brand new headlight with my side guards and bonnet resprayed as well because they were bent (though I couldnt see the diff). So bye bye stone chips and scratches. Good times ahead lolz

Not his fault so he doesn't need to worry about excess.
He could ask for cash payment but how much is he willing to give?

Haha i guess i'm used to my 2200 dollar excess i have to pay when the other people don't leave their number for damaging my car. Hence why i pay the damage instead of the excess. My bad. :p
