I heard they could be cleaned etc and work but only as a temporary fix

Technically yes but you need to replace some of the internals which i'd assume is a pain for an FTO Stepper. Much easier to just buy a new one every 10 years.

Don't be a tight arse but if you are desperate replacing a dead coil in a stepper with another one from memory is three soldering joints.

theres a DIY thread about refurbishing the starter motor so im just wonder if it can be done just as easy to a stepper motor.

You could take it to an auto elec to get it done but then your going to be paying around the same amount just for his time, but at least you could let us know exactly which parts we need to buy to refurb it :)

There are two coils from memory soldered to a pcb. You can unsolder the failed coil and resolder one that is working. Problem is getting another coil.

Buy a new stepper, take the coils out of the new one and put them in the old one :thumleft:
LED ALL the things.

I honestly don't know why you'd go through the trouble and time when you can pick them up for $99 brand new...
