FTO stalled twice on way home..
So i've just had my fto alarm installed with remote start and i upgraded all the speakers...
on the way home today there was 2 instances where i was waitiing to turn into a main road and my car just turned off (radio still on just no engine) it only happened twice though and it started up fine.
What would cause this? Is it just something to do with the wiring?
it's like it idles out...sounds really quiet now too.
Anyone for anything?
Cheers.

Would this affect anything?

Unlikely unless you didn't put the terminals back on properly?renzkuken1 wrote:it only started happening when i unplugged my amp....i have a 4 guage wire with a fuse going from the batter to the boot just taped off with nothing on it yet.

Re: FTO stalled twice on way home..
idk i do know all the alarm connections are soldered in with very good wired connections. I'm still kaffufled about this, i'll let you know if the problem persists. Haven't had any time to look at it yet.bass_twitch wrote:Unlikely unless you didn't put the terminals back on properly?renzkuken1 wrote:it only started happening when i unplugged my amp....i have a 4 guage wire with a fuse going from the batter to the boot just taped off with nothing on it yet.

Did the revs slowly drop, or did it just cut out?

Re: FTO stalled twice on way home..
It could be your stepper motor failing and the work just a coincidence.
To check stepper follow these steps.
Start car and allow to idle
Turn on air con (or if you don't have working air con like me turn steering wheel to engage p/s pump)
Revs should rise slightly to compensate for extra being asked of the engine
If the revs don't rise your stepper is suspect. If they do, it's ruled out.

Re: FTO stalled twice on way home..
Read what you wrote again. It only started happening after you removed the wire from the amp. So you have massive amps going through a cable and you have used some tape???renzkuken1 wrote:it only started happening when i unplugged my amp....i have a 4 guage wire with a fuse going from the batter to the boot just taped off with nothing on it yet.

That's crazy. Did you at least pull out the inline fuse???

Terminal? His got what is essentially a 4 gauge cable straight from the alternator flapping around his boot protected with a bit of electrical tape. Poor sensors.bass_twitch wrote:Unlikely unless you didn't put the terminals back on properly?renzkuken1 wrote:it only started happening when i unplugged my amp....i have a 4 guage wire with a fuse going from the batter to the boot just taped off with nothing on it yet.

Start your car shove the the part you tapped off in your ear and see if you feel anything.

Re: FTO stalled twice on way home..
I had live wires hanging around in my boot without tape (0 gauge) i know its pretty stupid as if it were to ground itself somehow it could cause a fire, but im pretty sure it wouldn't cause your car to turn off or stall as he said

- Inspecting Battery Cable Connections - The battery cable connection in your car can be loose and vibrating when the car running. This vibration causes the battery terminal to short very rapidly creating an electrical system surge that can cause the engine to stall. The battery cable connection must be clean (free from corrosion) and tightly fastened to allow the flow of electricity from the battery to the starter. With the key in the off position located battery to inspect the battery cable connections. Battery cable connections must be tight and not wiggle on the battery terminal. If the cable is lose remove it and clean, then tighten the cable with a wrench or socket wrench. Use baking soda to neutralize any suspected acid residue before work begins.

I'd wager my left nut that'll be the problem. At least put a fuse in that line too... that Sub install 101 stuff.

Think he does but left it in. Guess electrical tape was easier!
