Slight shudder

Post by Eltnot »

Yesterday morning on the way into work, I hit a largish rock that had fallen off a truck or something. That evening whilst driving, I have noticed that I get a slight shudder through the steering column when turning to the left slightly and occasionally when going straight. I'm guessing that the rock may have damaged my rim or steering/suspension when I hit it with the front driver's side tyre. Any thoughts as to what may be causing the shudder? I'm going to book it into be checked out as soon as I can, but would like to get an idea of what I may be in for.

I'm hoping it's just a damaged wheel so that I can just get a new one.

I pulled the wheel off tonight and found a good sized dent on the inner rim. Looks like that is the cause of my shudder as expected. Now just to source a replacement :|

Trying to find a place to get it repaired since it will be 3-4 weeks before the supplier gets one in.
Have found the following:
Albion Wheel Repair - No longer exists
Depilu on the Gold Coast
Wheel Revolutions at Slacks Creek

Anyone know of any other places in the Brisbane area?

Edit - Also anyone have a spare wheel and tyre in Brisbane that I can borrow/hire for a month or so?

Dropped it into Street Wheels and Tyres (across from Wheel Revolutions) as they could look at it sooner.
They've fixed it in one day, $235 to repair the wheel, replace my steering boots, and give it a wheel alignment.
Will see the quality of work tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm just hoping they did a decent job. I'm guessing they are charging me around $100 for the wheel repair which looking at threads on other forums is about what the charge to grind back and polish a rim. There was no polishing needed since the dent is on the inside of the rim, but still it feels very cheap to me.
