Post by Daniel2019 »

Ended up with crappy E10 petrol in my car, should I flush it all out completely before refuelling or simply mix it with the decent stuff? Theres only a 1/4 of a tank left of it

chuck 1/2 tank 98 and some octane booster in it, run it till it gets 1/4 down then chuck 1/2 tank 98... run it down to 1/4 then put a full tank of 98 in and run it till 1/4 tank... then full tank of 98 then run till almost dry then full tank 98 and you should be good...

dont do it again though!

Personally I think someone should start a class action law suite against the NSW government for 'doing the deal' for mandatory E10 and their plans to remove regular unleaded for sale in NSW. Just another NSW labour dodgy deal f**k up!

Long story short, I was in a hurry and the only available pump was E10.

After doing some research it seems that it wont have any effect on my car because its a one off use and the FTO can actually safely take the E10. Dunworry guise Im gonna be using 98 for a few weeks to make up for it

I'd like to see your research.
E10 is 91RON which means it is more likely to combust prematurely under extreme heat and pressure.
Mivecing causing extreme heat if not also pressure.
Combusting prematurely causes backfires and damage to the internals.

Mitsubishi All petrol engine vehicles since 1986 will operate satisfactorily on E10:Mitsubishi vehicles with carburettor fuel systems manufactured before 1991 may experience hot fuel handling concerns and may experience a lower level of durability in some fuel system components. - http://www.onlinemechanical.net/ethanol-E10.html

One off use of E10 should be fine according to all of this, however I could be wrong

That information is for Australian Mitsubishi's which the FTO is not.
Seeing is how it is a grey import and not factory delivered over here, you have to count it as a Japanese Mitsubishi - which discludes it from that statistic, it also says to refer to your handbook for this info as well, which im pretty sure will say to only use high octane petrol (and since they are tuned for 100 in Japan, even our 98 is below the standard pretty much)
As eltnot said, yes you MIGHT get away with that one tank IF you do it properly (as mentioned above) but you shouldnt be using it at all.

No, I don't think you understand....

"Dunworry guise Im gonna be using 98 for a few weeks to make up for it" You should ONLY be using 98 from this point forward!
Oh, and you might want to check your spelling of "Don't worry guys I'm going" to

That stings. V-power & 98 it is then. So basically the best option would be to flush it out? Would completely draining the tank be a good idea or should I simply keep continuing to top up after 1/4 tank?

Just fill it up with BP Ultimate (probably the best option for PULP in Sydney, although aza will disagree  ) and just keep filling it up you'll be fine.

Standard E10 is probably not as bad as regular unleaded as the ethanol content provides some cooling effect on the fuel/air charge and also raises the octane level a little. That said still not a good idea unless it's a PULP E10 such as United's Premium 100, which would be the best pump fuel available for any performance car.

Nope, sh*tty budget petrol crap, I didnt really have a choice, it had to go in. As mentioned before Im just gonna be using 98 from now on with some octane boost to start with

I like to think of it this way, its a Jap spec car, the japs have very good 98 -100 RON fuel.

Australia has sh*t fuel, our fuel is the pond scum that's left in the bottom of the Japanese fuel :D
