Re: WTB - Rims
To be honest, all the cheap rims are in Japan.
You can literally pick up a set of 4 used (but in excellent condition -the japs and their second hand stuff, has no value to them its new or nothing over there) volk, rays all the big brand quality wheels for around the 150-200aud mark. Depending on shipping and costs of third party to suss them out look into it dude, what im doing eventually for the track car. Give someone like import monster an email and see if they can head down to one of the many wheel/aftermarket stores and pick you up an insane deal.
The idea of a sort of group buy just ran through my head. If import monster are willing to do a cheap shipping deal/third party tax if say 10 of us wanted some rims then maybe it would be worth looking into? wouldnt mine a set of TE37's for 10% of what id pay here in aus...

UP garage is what i was thinking of
might even have a sight up if you can be bothered translating every page in google translate, might find some yourself.
That store is insane for getting anything aftermarket for your car, rims especially!

There is a set of bronze te37 in ebay from a reputable jap seller. 1500 surely he is negoatiable but for that price with exotic tyres its a steal! Te37 brand new in same size 16x7 5x114.3 is 700 each.

Re: WTB - Rims
At the moment im lined up with Sahin's old starcorp racing rims for $300 for the set, apparently one has a flat spot or something (its off his wreck I think?) which he says is quoted at $100 to fix. $400 set of rims with tyres (5% tread probably hah)

Re: WTB - Rims
2 back tires are fine and have plenty on them actually, would need to rerubber 2 and fix the flat spot if your fussy
Also, got a reply back from import monster this morning and they have no problems getting stuff from Japan and chucking it on a container for us. The major factor would be the tax and freight, but with a few of us again shouldnt be too much of a problem.
Heres the email: - note the last sentence, lets get some numbers together peoples!
Hi Taz
we're certainly setup to get anything from Japan you might like, Upgarage, Rakuten, Hasegawa - no problems at all
We have an import estimate calculator at http://www.importmonster.com.au/estimate
Rims can be cheap over there, but there is still freight/tax to consider - register on the site, check out the calculator and see what you think. If you're buying a whole bunch of stuff, of course we can give you a good rate on the shipping.
Cheers,
Aaron

Re: WTB - Rims
Can get a set of 15000yen rims (usual price of them over there) for $566 dollars. This includes a $220 for shipping costs by import monster - and as you just read the more we get the cheaper that gets, might be ab le to get that down to say 200 maybe cheaper
So if you want some decent rims cheap then pick out what you want and ill get a shopping list for them happening and i will see what i can do - got this up on FB as well as i know a few others that want some decent rims
Maybe i will be getting some TE37 SL's for under 600 landed....
EDIT: ok im sure ive got the right quote, set of 4 rims by sea is 220 shipping

Where the hell are you getting these prices from mate? It certainly not Import Monster.Taz wrote:Can get a set of 15000yen rims (usual price of them over there) for $566 dollars. Last time I checked, a set of TE37's were around 150,000 yen & not 15,000
TE37s - 150,000¥ http://www.importmonster.com.au/view?your ... %20GTR%204
TE37s - 178,000¥ http://www.importmonster.com.au/view?your ... title=RAYS
TE37s - 138,000¥ http://www.importmonster.com.au/view?your ... 0%20106BI1
Furthermore, this is a direct extract from Import monster regarding freight of 4 wheels + tyres delivered to your door. You need to be signed in to IM to see the quote.
As you can see, container freight is $350, then add $200 for Australian road freight unless you feel like driving to Port Melbourne to pick them, then add GST..
Import Monster freight quote wrote:Costs Estimate
Item Cost: 150,000¥
Japanese Domestic Freight: 10,000¥
Import Monster Commission: 25,000¥
Total Japan Costs: 185,000¥
Exchange Rate: $1AUD buys: 84¥
Import Duty: 7,500¥
Container Freight Cost: $350.00
Australian Domestic Freight: $200.00
Sub Total: $2,841.67
GST: $284.17
Total: $3,125.84

Re: WTB - Rims
we are not getting import monster prices on their brand new wheels, we are simply using them as a third party to buy and ship, i am well aware that they are selling TE37 rims for 3800aud+
they are brand new which we will be getting second hand (and i was merely using te37's as a reference for what i want, knowing full well they are a top end wheel)
Rims do go for as low as 2-300 dollars over there if you find the right store and right bargain, 15,000 not 150,000 yen
Also, your 350 shipping is wrong, they are a catagory D, not E - you must be looking at AIR catoagories, not sea. (which again, i was told will be coming down with more people in)
I am well aware they ship to VIC, however it is only another 200 to ship to your door (again will be cheaper but not by much if we can get a few people in) or alternatively just get a trailer and haul them up through sydney and then to brissie, when we get numbers im sure i would be quite happy to drive a trailer down...

Re: WTB - Rims
Ive seen rims as cheap as 10,000 - 9,800 for a full set over there dude, again not buying brand new out of a box, buying second hand from a massive store like UPgarage.
TE37 Sl was probably a poor choice for me to use as the rim i wanted (never said i could get it for that price i said maybe i could as i dont know what they have in stock)
In any case, quality used rims from big brands over there do go for 10-15k yen
EDIT: all the links you posted all had rubber on them still and were auctions, not just directly buying from a used superstore - also are those prices import monster prices or are they just playing the third party there - either way we will not be pursuing that route, will be handing over a list to import monster, they will go to the store, buy the list and charge us for shipping and their commission (which is factored into the estimate costs anyway)
