Mivec in 1st gear
Hi,
Ive notice when taking off in first gear going into the mivec range the actual kick in doesnt sound as obvious as it does in 2nd. Its so faint in 1st that im begining to think its not working at all ?!?!
Has anyone else notice that the mivec sound is softer in first or is it the same sound through out your gear range ??

Same here.
However, with mine there is a slight change in sound in 1st...
Because I have a Miver controller I can change the point or remove Mivec altogether. When I remove Mivec, 1st gear, and the others are kinda more mettalicy sounding if u know what I mean... You can defenetly tell the difference...
So this therefore leads to that Mivec although very fainth, is actually kicking in, in 1st gear.

Technical explaination for this.
Engine doesn't have to work hard at all during 1st gear . . . in fact, you won't be putting out anywhere near max power in first gear as the gear ratio is that high, the engine doesn't have to work hard to get it up to speed.
Therefore, in addition to first gear being revved through quickly, it just doesn't work that hard (ie. less air is drawn into the engine) so you don't get the sound of the higher cams being that prominent.

If im in 3rd doing 60 and floor in staying in third i find it quite sluggish, do do u mean this when its over a particular speed ??find, 1st gear to be the FTO's weakest link.. It just doesn't get enought torque, 2nd is good, 3rd is where it really pulls tru though. 3rd gear is my heaven for my baby.

I think he meant 3rd, In MIVEC range...
I think 1st gear is ok, but getting a perfect launch is quite difficult, 2nd is the best, while 3rd is semi-ok...
Like in 3rd is good against most NA <V6 cars, but when comparing with the turbo's yeah... it aint too great...

When I need to prove a point! OK!!Slither wrote:I gotta ask, when the hell r ya gunna b utilising mivec in 3rd gear?? I mean u have to b going pretty damn fast!!!
Don't make me take your ass out on 3rd gear too!! :p
With that said, I find, my launch, can be ok.. (I drive a manual) but in first gear, going into mivec, i find, is when I start to loose my power, and going into 2nd is getting better, but 3rd around mivec seems to be best for me.
How do ya'll normally drive, when trying to "prove a point"

I luv this rule, and try to stick to it as often as I can.Slither wrote:While i may offend some people i have to say that speeding proves no point at all!! Draggin people off from the lights can b fun, but whats the point in breakin the speed limit to "prove a point"? IMO your drag ends when u hit the speed limit, goin any faster is a waste of time
