Trade prices

Post by Taz »

Im about to do an overhaul on the FTO, and next on the list while i have the suspension/rotors/pads being replaced is the CV's/boots and tie rod's - can anyone here get a good trade price? and be willing to ship to brisbane at my expense?
If you can get it trade price as well (compared to $99 at autobarn) im after some LSD oil - preferrably Nulon fully synth 80W-140 heavy duty LSD oil (4L) And probably a 1L bottle as well as doesnt the box take just over 4L?

If it still works out cheaper than what id pay ill shout a box of beer for your effort too. :D

Cheers

And you don't need any special oil for the GPvR LSD, as it's a Helical LSD.

I knew it was either just over 2L or 4L, assumed 4, that probably the automatic tranny im thinking of.
And im not sure which LSD i have in mine vectose, i recall many people saying its ny impossible to tell between the two types. Id rather invest the extra 40 odd dollars and play it safe, even if it is just for show.

Well the Version R gearbox only came with the Helical LSD. So unless it has been changed, that's what's in there. You can confirm by checking the gearbox code, should end in V7A6.

Then how did fto's come out with the viscous? Was viscous a pure optional factory item while the helical was only to be found in the GPR? so there are zero GPR's with viscous? Never really bothered to learn which goes in what.

Either way, the oil will be going in, regardless of LSd oil or not its good quality and i want it

Could be COTY/Nakaya tune LSD type rather than the vR type?

Viscous LSD was a factory option for all FTO's.

Viscous LSD was the only LSD option up to 97. When facelifted, it became the helical that was the LSD option. Standard fare on all the vRs.

The viscous component of a viscous LSD is a sealed unit consisting of a bunch of wafer thin clutch style plates spinning in a specific viscosity fluid. This sealed unit is supposedly replaceable. Having said that, being sealed, the gearbox it resides in does not need any special oils.

As mentioned above, a helical style LSD does not require any special oil either.

Taz, if you dump 80W-140 oil in your box you will not be able to get it into 2nd gear when cold. Heavy duty gearbox oil is not good for F5M42 boxes. They are very sensitive to oil types. Do yourself a favour, use what the manual says, a 75W-85W GL4 oil.

The only time I've used anything other than that, was when I was using a Cusco clutch style LSD. Even then, I only used an 80W-90 LSD oil.

Taz, didn't you say you were an apprentice mechanic or some sh*t like that? Surely wherever you're working for would have a trade account?
