Electric Brake Controller

Hey Fraz I have found a brake controller for you.
It's a Hayman Reese.
I have also got you an auto reset circuit breaker and a inline fuse holder.
I have photocopied wiring info for controller and trailer plug. The controller instructions are from a different unit but the wiring is the same.
I will sell it all to you for $0.00 (incl postage)

So it's do-able with some solder, heat-shrink and wire? Awesome

How much wire will I need roughly? Figure I need a decent length of Blue, Red and Black to get this wired properly.

You will need....
1. Red/Black dual core wire from positive/negative battery terminals to brake controller, with the supplied circuit breaker near the positive battery.
2. Blue wire from the brake controller to the trailer plug, with supplied in-line fuse holder near the brake controller.
3. Red wire from the brake light switch to the brake controller, splicing into the cold/negative side wire of the brake light switch.

1 & 2 will go through the firewall.
1 to battery.
2 will go down the firewall and then along chassis rail to trailer plug, run it through split conduit for protection.
3 is all internally connected inside the cab.

You will also need solder, heat shrink, 15 Amp fuse, small crimp terminals-round ring end to suit circuit breaker connectors and battery terminal bolts, split conduit and cable ties.

No worries
May I suggest to give it a test first. Just wire it direct to battery before installation.
Connect 12V power wire(Black) to battery positive + earth wire(White) to battery negative + 12v power to brake switch wire(Red) & test power coming out of the brake wire(Blue).
The brake wire(Blue) will output 0-12V, depending on position of output slide, when Brake switch wire(Red) is connected to positive battery & no power on brake wire(Blue) when brake switch wire(Red) is disconnected.

FYI: Electric Trailer Brake Controllers supply a variable voltage from the truck, from 0 to 12 volts, to the trailer brakes. More voltage, greater stopping power. The brake controller varies the voltage to the trailer to allow for brake modulation. Without the controller, the brakes would get full 12 volts and the trailer tires would lock up, every time.
