The other day I closed it and i heard it make an odd click sound and now it wont go down, though i can hear it clicking when i press the button.
Can you help me identity the cause of this?

That is going to be your only way ... Either the motor is stuffed, or one of the clogs to move the wheel is.. Only way to find out will be to look ...

Was hoping i could find out the issue before taking the door off, but your right it will be the only way to tell.
