Battery hasn't been charging and I've just put in a new secondhand alternator and it's now dead on the side of the road. It's the same two pin type alternator except I've just noticed it has a black and red wire that's been cut...What is it and do I need it?
And any other help would be muchly appreciated...

If you're an auto electrician or a mechanic, and you're close to the north side of brissy, I'd love a hand

So is there any difference between alternators in regards to different models of fto's?

Yes. Alternator for Mivec FTOs is 4 pin. Non-mivec is 2 pin.
I fix cars.

So this is the alternator I removed above
And this one here is what I replaced it with...but my original one didn't have this wire hanging out...
The battery is not holding charge

I have no idea...the hubby picked it up like that...I'm guessing it'll have to go somewhere but why didn't the original one have wires??? I'm confused

I take it your engine is a GR? Is it only the GR's which have this connection? (I can check mine to see where it connects to)

Im pretty sure neither has that wire actually. Dont want to know where the missing bit goes. Want to know where it goes if you follow the wire in the picture. Does it go into the alternator?

Here are a couple of different angles...My car is a gpx...I really am confused by the whole thing...this wire is connected to the alternator...can't see where it would connect

Those pics don't really help. We need to see where the wire is going into. And your alternator needs to be 4-PIN not 2-PIN.
That would explain your issues. The wire going into the alternator should have originally been a 4-PIN as well, something dodgy is happening there...

Hmmmmm....well the one that was removed was a two pin and it had been working fine. The wire is coming out of the alternator and going f**k knows where...I suppose I'll have to jack the car up again and have a look from underneath

It's not a mivec, and yes, I had no troubles with the car...it didn't skip a beat
