Re: Rowans GPX Turbo Build
I was also thinking about doing twin charge. Just haven't had the time to think about how I'd do it.

I was at 202kw on E85 before coil packs started failing.

Re: Rowans GPX Turbo Build
Good luck catching up to FTO007. There is no benefit to a turbo that big, smaller ones will spool faster and also still be able to make boost through your rev range but it's there so yeah may as well slap it in.
I fix cars.

Re: Rowans GPX Turbo Build
Are you actually based in WA, or did you move up to NT (Where abouts is this FTO)? Looks like a really interesting build! I'd be super interested in taking a look at it, but you're a lot further up north than I think! Not many FTO enthusiasts in Perth, only a rare few of us. Glad to see a turbo 6A12 happening somewhat nearby haha

We're up in Broome - two FTO's in town (mine and my Son Rowans).shiggz wrote:Are you actually based in WA, or did you move up to NT (Where abouts is this FTO)? Looks like a really interesting build! One Turbo (although it's not quite finished) and one soon to be Supercharged.
The huge turbo is on but the exhaust is blowing (somewhere in the engine bay around the turbo, T4 flange or exit) but I haven't looked at it yet, will post up drive results soon.

Re: Rowans GPX Turbo Build
New genuine wastegate has arrived ($300+ and from a company called Gameon - Turbosmart Australia verified that they are an authorised distributor)
The 'copy' one was very good visually and you really have to compare side by side to spot the differences.
The differences I noticed were:
No number stamped on the underside of the valve
No number on the cap underneath the text
Bolt holes slightly larger diameter and not chamfered enough
Cap slightly taller
Text on the cap not exactly the same font and not as clear but very close
Copy came with flanges
Chamfer inside where the valve seat fits slightly different
I'm hoping that the copy one wasn't sealing correctly and was letting some air past the floating seat but it could be that functionally it was working just fine.

Re: Rowans GPX Turbo Build
Isn't it funny the amount of effort that companies go to do mimic a more reputable product?

It is, this was such a good copy when Rowan put them side by side he said look it's the same I don't think I had a copy on just cheaper somehow, I had to really look closely for the differences.bjk wrote:Isn't it funny the amount of effort that companies go to do mimic a more reputable product?

Re: Rowans GPX Turbo Build
This new huge precision turbo is spooling he said and making a nice noise and he's definitely got boost although late at around 5000rpm he thinks.
And he's happy with that so far, got some tidying jobs to do on the car now.
Not sure what boost it's making or what power yet, the boost gauge still isn't working but the meth injection kit has arrived and the controller has a built in gauge so will install that in place of the crappy boost gauge - probably over the weekend even though not installing meth yet, and see how much boost it's making.

If he ever takes it to the strip, he should see how many people he can convince it's just MIVEC.

Re: Rowans GPX Turbo Build
Help required please.
White-ish smoke (but i'd say mainly clear and smelling of fuel/oil) puffing out of the breather that normally goes into the intake, this doesn't look normal to me at all.
Pulled off the pcv and it's puffing there too.
He's since fitted a catch can which you can see in this vid and ive pulled the pcv off to show you. And he may have fitted the catch can wrong as I think it should be in-line with the pcv valve shouldn't it but that's another issue (would be nice to confirm though).
Sounds like a diesel!

Hoping it's not the head as he nearly did the head before on the way to / from the bonfire and then afterwards when a hose came off and dumped all the coolant out so we know it could be a bit dodgy. Had new rad, water pump and thermos since then and been ok.
It is over-fuelling 11:1 ish at idle so we need to sort that, but still never seen this puffing before, i'm hoping this over-fuelling is just causing a bit of bore wash and that's allowing shite past the rings but really I don't know.
EDIT:Looks like the head, oil cap looks fine but there's milky jizzum inside one of the catch can fittings.
Idle is all over the place too once it's warmed up.
Cam timing all lines up.
What's the definitive way to find out about the head or is that proof enough?

Re: Rowans GPX Turbo Build
Compression test would be the best way. Does seem like head is cooked sadly. Oh well, time to slap in another motor with a lower compression ratio...
Boost!!
Boost!!
