Re: Project FTO Black Hole
So 6 months later and plans have changed for this car.
I've decided that it's not worth the money to get this going with the 6A13, so I'm reverting it back to a 6A12 and just going to use it as a cruiser.
I'd much rather put the money into building a club/rally car than just a road car.
The FTO will end up just being a weekend driver, and who knows, maybe a year or two in the future plans may change again.
So I've got a spare engine that I'm doing some maintenance on then throwing in.
Ordered a new standard duty clutch today, dropping the flywheel off for machining tomorrow.
A new cambelt/water pump. cam seals, half moon seals will be ordered tomorrow.
All going well it should be going again before Christmas

Re: Project FTO Black Hole
Yeah, one day it may get boost, one day...
Dropped the flywheel off yesterday to get machined, and will pick that back up and the clutch kit this afternoon.
Also picked up a bunch of stuff from the shops:
Engine oil
Gearbox oil
Hydraulic Tensioner
Water pump
fuel filter
thermostat
and ordered and picking up today:
Timing belt kit
half moon seals
cam seals
crank seals
Radiator hoses
And today I'll be dropping off all 8 cams that I've got to the engine builder to get his opinion on which ones to use and get them cleaned up.
And because threads are always better with photos: The last photo I have of the car, there's a bit more crap sitting around it now, but it's pretty much the same mess.

Re: Project FTO Black Hole
Not much progress so far, was away all weekend doing a rally down south, so didn't get to touch it.
Earlier in the week, I threw the water pump on, replaced the fuel filter, and put the factory front shocks back in.
Couldn't get to the rear as its too close to the shelving to open the boot.
Just need to grab a rear main seal, and a steering rack boot, for parts.
Also still waiting on the cams to be finished.

Re: Project FTO Black Hole
Engine is in, all wired up, just need to find a few missing hoses and throw some oil in it, then it should be ready to test.
Need to fix up the wiring inside after removing the remote starter.
Also still need to throw the front bumper on, and swap out the rear suspension.
Who knows, maybe I'll be driving it home tonight.... I hope...

Re: Project FTO Black Hole
Pop pop, crackle crackle, first run once we got the timing sorted properly...
Right, so the car is running and reasonably well now too.
The only issue is I'm still occasionally getting the CEL 41 - Injector system.
I thought this might have been due to the ~18 month old fuel in it, so filled it right up with fresh 98 and some injector cleaner.
It's nearly a quarter of the way through that tank now, and the CEL will still quite often come on.
I find that if I kill the engine and start it again, the CEL goes away and the car will run great.
With the light on, it's in limp mode, limited to 6200 RPM and no MIVEC. With the CEL off, it runs as it should, and has no hesitation getting up to 8000.
Any thoughts? Or should I just keep running the fresh tank through and see if things improve?

Re: Project FTO Black Hole
Been driving it a bit the last couple of days, still having the issue with the CEL/Limp mode, restarting the engine gets rid of it and it drives nicely for a while until you come to an intersection, then it comes back on. :/
