Hi thought it was about time that i posted a pic of my car.
Specs are just about the same as everyone else
Manual
Pod
3" exhaust
17" wheels
custom paint
Veilside body kit
custom interior (pics later)
Have to fix the plastic around the gearstick first
Clear side indicators when i get the from Japan
Also thinking of putting a NOS kit on it, so if anyone can give me some info on this, would be great :)

heres a few pics of my car 8) only had the chance to get photos of it recently... more run of the mill veilside bodykit.. except if you look closely at the front nose its missing the front lip and side bits. not too sure how the kit came about as the car was imported straight through a dealer from japan.

it also came with Recaro seats, worn gear knob and momo steering wheel ( :? ), HKS filter, TRUST shiny exhaust with a resonator in there somewhere (very quiet when driving), and the front strut brace.

does anyone else have a flare on the passenger side under the glovebox?

Those flares are required to be carried by all cars in Japan to be used in the event of accidents. Usually they are removed as part of the importation process (at least they are here - they are actually illegal to have in the car here due to the risk of someone accidentally setting them off and causing a fire), but it would seem that sometimes they slip through. My parents once bought an imported BF Mazda Familia which still had the flare.

It's gone :( - now carless...

yeah ive currently taken mine off the advertising market.
Just cause ive had a change of heart about selling it to some chump who doesnt give a f**k bout quality. I would rather hang on to it, until the perfect buyer comes along... to quote a movie:
If you build it, they will come
The car is complete - so im just waiting for the perfect buyer.

the last people who looked at my car didnt even know what Mivec was and were trying make me drop my price $3.5k just cause they saw another FTO (Complete stocker) for $13.5k.

rant over.

p.s Welcome to the club :)
My pic was too big.

haha, its the way it goes though... everyone wants something for nothing... the one for $13500 probably had hell high km's and badly maintained.
in my opinion, from what i've found with previous purchases... the extra money you spend generally provides better quality etc...

New to Forum, and these cars

Post by Jandrew »

Hey all,

My name is James, i am from Sydney, and new to this site (duh) I own a Holden Commodore SV8 (VY) and it is just too much $$ to keep going. So I am seriously considering a FTO as my next car, my V8 is just too much $$$ to run, and insure.
I see the FTO as a good, cheap ($$$ wise not quality) and fast way into a cheaper car :)
I am wondering who you guys are insured with, and roughly how much one of these is to insure, say a 1995 GPX with the Mivec (spelling) motor.
Also has anyone had any probs with getting parts, or age of car (kms) wise, i am totally new to the import cars so any help would be greatly apreciated.
Also is it better to get one imported just for me, or buy one already over here?

Thanks in advance James

Welcome to the forum James,

You're certainly taking a big step down in power from a VY SV8, and a big step up in the age of vehicle. But as long as your ok with that the FTO is a great car to own.

I really recommend you take one for a test drive, or even try to meet one of the Sydney club members to see what your in for. (I would offer but I recently move to SA)

As for parts ... the answer is ... it depends. You will never find the scale and scope of parts as for a commie or falcon. But Mitsubishi is quite good in getting parts at a reasonable price. They have a large stockpile in Japan and still do production runs for parts. There are also certain performance manifacturers that make parts for the FTO like brakes, intakes etc. And of course there is Stephen (club president) who works with Unique to produce performance parts.

Example: I am in the process of stripping my interior to reseal/redrain my sunroof. I noticed a few secruing caps were missing, so I've ordered them from Mitsi. They are coming from Japan to Adelaide on a regular shipment. Will take 2-3 weeks and cost $1.30 each. (so no drama really)

As for importing/or buying here. Regardless I think it will be unlikely that you find a single owner car with complete history. So I would consider both... However, importing is harder than it was a few years ago from what I here.

Good luck mate.
