I did try the suggestions of coolant temp sensor, fuse, relay, unplugging switch, cluster.. and the thermostat had already been replaced and rad had already been flushed.. it was just a while before I got around to taking it down the road.

Temperature gun to check the core temperature against the reading of the dash cluster...

Yeah.. I wanted to get eliminate everything I could before taking it to someone for something that I could potentially fix myself (granted, that isn't much, but still). And I dont have access to a temp gun so I tried everything else that I could before paying someone else to do it. It would be stupid to pay someone to fix something if I could just do it myself.

Have you actually tried swapping radiators yet? I may have flushed it clean, but that's not to say one end of it isn't clogged up solid. Be another troubleshooting tick in a box that this elusive auto sparky wont have to check

No you nong. The reason for 2 fans is they switch on independently at times. Low speed would switch on when your coolant temp goes above normal operating temp and if your low speed fails to keep your operating temp normal the second fan turns on. That's why your car is going over norm operating temp but not overheating as the high speed circuit is kicking on. So the low speed should be kicking in before the high speed does. So should be on above 92 degrees.

Well mate... he erm.. sold that car...

Plus I fixed it. Coolant temp sensor to gauge was rooted. Dash showed hot while scan tool showed normal temp. It never got above normal temperature, gauge just thought it did
