i have tried the idle screw but dont want to turn it up a lot and idle past 1000rpm in traffic..

ok, i found 2 broken wires in the stepper plug, maybe its from me taking it off and on so many times, maybe it's been the problem all along??? was covered in tape so i never saw it before now. fingers crossed this was the problem,
new plug is all wired up and have the battery on charge and will try it again tomorrow.

i got my son's cpu to swap out and try, so will only cost me some time, which atm i got plenty of, unless mine is shot, then im sure dstocks will have a 2nd hand one. its good to have a spare car in the driveway
update;
well it aint the CPU. i guess i have to admit defeat

who will be able to diagnose it?? just an auto electrician??

Seems to be a common issue.
I have it as well on some really cold mornings. Might have something to do with the stepper motor. May need replacing.

I been thinking about the wiring again and thought I better check it one more time,
HAPPY days people !!!!!! it's working !!!!!!!!!!
I remembered there were 2 red wires, one had a silver band and one was plain, so today I thought I might just swap them around and try it again, BINGO. started first kick and idled perfectly, smooth as silk.
So I'm guessing it was the broken wire/wires all along. I hate electrical problems !!!!!! gimme a blown head gasket any day !!!!!
In the end, apart from a few sleepless nights, all it cost me was a new stepper and a lot of hours hunched over the engine bay. My son's car got the new stepper as I swapped his into my car, so it's all good...
Many thanks to all who offered advice, I would be lost without you all and a lot poorer..
