Strange Air Con Problem

Post by Breza »

Hi All,

Just before Christmas my Air Con stopped cooling............when Hobart was experiencing its 4 hot days of the year. :)

I got my Air Con pressure tested (tested OK), refilled with good quality refrigerant that includes a dye and leak tested using a "sniffer" that picks up leaking refridgerant.

I was expecting to replace pipes, seals, compressors, condensers etc so a bill for $180 (including 3 month guarantee) was neglible.

2 weeks later..........same thing happens..........no Air Con gas left.

Air Con system was pressure and sniffer tested again (no leaks) with no signs of dye and refridgerant refilled again at no cost.

I am due to drop the car back in to the Air Con specialist in a few days time to get re-tested.

Has anyone had a similar problem in the past? or an idea of where the gas could be going?

Cheers

Chris

my guess is the Condender and they guys are useless. I have had some many dick "specialists" tell me they cant find the issue its amazing.

Recenelty i replaced my condenser. I got a new one and it cost 600...quite expensive.

I would take it to some1 else. It cant be that hard to find. If you wer ein Vic, I have the guys.

I have a re-co Condender now also if u need one. I fixed up the old one whenit was out cos it had a hole. few hundred for u.

Thanks,

I'll suggst they take a closer look at the condenser when I take it back next week.

Not taking it to anyone else at this stage as it is not costing me anything due to the guarantee involved in the first lot of work.

Appreciate the offer but if I need a new condenser I would prefer to purchase a new item of Mitsu rather than a "patched up" old one which could end up giving me the same problem.

Cheers

new one $700.00 Vs $300. Up to you.

I have seen new ones with holes straight out for the box also.

Leak has been finally found..........

Ultraviolet dye from the refridgerant has apparently been located somewhere between compressor and condenser. (haven't seen where abouts this is myself)

Have to get the front of the car taken off to locate the specific location of the leak.

Might have to finally get around to doing a decent cold air feed at the same time.

Quite true............but at least with a new one you get a warranty against defective parts.

Hey mate, you got the number for the re-co condenser guy.
I took the car to specialists and they said it'll cost $700 to fix the condenser and even than they weren't sure whether they'll get the a/c working or not.
