Rattling noise coming from exhaust or so i think..

I have a really bad rattling noise coming from the exhaust well it appears to be, seems to be prevelent on accelleration, as you can probably tell I don't know a lot about the mechanic part of a car so I took my car to a Mechanic today because I thought they would be able to help with something like that, but all i got off the mechanic was... "I don't know what it is, it could be the engine, the exhaust seems fine" and seemed hestitant to discuss the problem any further apart from telling me i should get a new car.
Silly me thinking a mechanic could help me!
Anyways now i'm frustrated... seems nothing on the exhaust is loose and the noise seems to definetly be coming from the back of the car.. Has anyone had a problem like this before? Any ideas on how i would be able to actually get it fixed?

Could be the sheet metal casing around your cat converter...it often becomes a bit loose & can be bent a bit to stop it. There is also a sheet metal heat shield that is bolted to the underside of your boot above the muffler... it can rattle & come loose too...
