Tacho not working (yes, I've searched the forum haha)

Okay, so. My tacho hasn't worked since I got the car, but now it's starting to get to me.

Can someone point me to a DIY guide where I can pull the tacho out and look behind it? I'm not sure what I'll do then... just stare at the wiring and will it to work?

I've got an idea that it might be the ignition sensor (from my searching through the forum) but have no idea what this means... can I buy one and just plug it in somewhere, or what?

Help? Cheers guys :D

There are 2 screws holding the outer cover for speedo/rev unit,
take them off and pull the plastic cover out,
4 more screw holds the speedo unit, take them off and pull the unit straight out.
Then you can open the unit, however, you cant do much about it as there is no cables there, just a wiring board.
You probably need to get a new replacement unit.

I do have a manual unit for sale as well as the seat covers

I've got a Tip Rev Counter if you're after one - just have to wait 2 weeks till i'm onshore for me to check 4speed or 5speed.

(And i'll have the manual rev counter off you if nicholas doesn't want it max! Or are you trying to sell the whole cluster?)

Not sure what ECU error codes would be produced from a bad ignition sensor... You tried seeing if you've got any?

Anyone near you with an FTO? Maybe ask them nicely to swap your ignition sensors to see if that fixes the problem!

Cheers for the suggestions guys!

It's a manual, so thanks for the tip offer but I don't think that'll help.
Do you think it's more likely to be the ignition sensor, or the unit itself? The other dials work perfectly, just not the tacho.

My last exam is on Friday, I'll try and check the engine error codes over the weekend and see what comes up!
