Quick opinions..
Sorry guys.. just wanted a few opinions.. I normally don't ask things like these buy I've been thinking for the past 3 months and I get headaches and cannot make up my mind..
Lets say you had your fto for a couple of years.. you craved power and kinda started getting over the whole FTO look.
Would you just sell it and buy and Evo 8?
Or would you spend a bit of cash doing the works like the full interior (talking about seats/door panels/door cups/ console/roof lining/vents), adjustable suspension, extractors downpipes, ecu, cold air intake (running pipe to bottom of car), fuel cutter controller, lambo doors (lol, i find them damn attractive), vented bonnet and even a tiny bit of vinyl art.. something suttle, not something idiotic like flames or a pheonix on the side of the car.
I've almost been ready to put my car up for sale.. but I just can't bring myself to do it. I love the way my car is, but I'm not happy with it as it has so much more potential to be so much more. Although I'll never be happy with it's power, it'll give me a bit more grunt, but I just don't want to do all those things then a year later get bored again..
I'm so confused.. what would you guys do? Apologies for bothering you guys with this.. but it's really doing my head in and I can't make up my mind..

If your getting to the point were your just about selling it, i say sell it go have some fun with some other cars. How many other cars have you owned???? If its your first then definitly experience something different. You can always buy another one later on down the track. However i will never sell mine and the only other car that i would buy under 40k is a batman rx7.
Well thats my 2 cents

Haha well before this I had a 96 magna
I jsut don't know if it's worth doing all those things to the car, I want to be unique and different, but evo8 is a pretty good car. You reckon it's worth doing all those things to it if I was keeping it though?

So its your first car then
Well the problem is the word WORTH. is it WORTH it. Well if i was your financil advisor i would say NO NO NO. As you will never get your money back on it unless there was this freak attack by aliens that destroyed every other FTO in the world but yours, so your car became the rarest car ever. Worth it in the learning and individual expresiion side then yes, maybe. Worth it in the, ive built something unique and to my tastes satisfaction then HELL YES. But, WORTH it in instant satisfaction, maybe not. Youu have to look at what you really want now. Massive amounts of power through the rear wheels to do long drifts up mountains or to handle through those mountains like your on rails, rally driving. Theres only a few things i dont really like about evo's 1) Four door 2) (IMO) you really cant do much to them in the looks department as the already look great and you dont really want to loose that evo look.

if its black and white (power or fto)...then i would say go for power. a lot of people say its hard to let go of the fto, but i think the real reason why people say that is because they are attached to these forums. in the end the decision is your. if its all about power, then get the evo, if you still wanna keep the fto, keep it. (although this is my first car, i can see how people get bored of cars they have had for a while, and this is probably the real reason you want something different)

i'm gonna take the other side of the argument...
if you love the FTO and don't wanna let it go... then don't.
there's a million things you could do to it,
go for unique styling and you could become the new ULIKE that people try to copy,
or if you've got a power craving find some ridiculous engine to chuck in it.
(has anyone tried putting a Honda S2K engine in a FTO yet???
)
you'll most likely never get anywhere near the cash you spent on it back again,
but what car does?!?! who the hell buys an import for re-sale value?
every day you'll be able to drive it knowing that it started as a pretty rare car,
and YOU made it a one-of-a-kind.
turn it into your own work of art and it'll be worth more to you than anyone could ever imagine

Ah when I asked if it's worth it, I didn't mean financially.

anywho....i can see where you are coming from silverfish, and that is a very important point as well. if you make your fto unique, then nothing else can really compare to it. its also a sense of completion, doing something from start to finish, and knowing its what you want.

Its very hard to give advice on something like this...
The biggest thing i like is messing with peoples heads...
Wether you do it with a crazy custom FTO, or by Nailing their Supra...
You buy an EVO and you beat someone in a race, then they sigh and go, oh well its an EVO... sort of expected that...
There's nothing like having your own custom car... Something that is totally yours... where you can look at it and no longer even see where the standard thing was... All that is left is your creation...
It stops being an FTO... and turns into YOUR fto....
After my FTO i will be buying a family car... and a house... and all the other sensible sh*t...
For now.... Im doing this while i can... Sublime, you're the same age as me... I figure do this now.. get it out of your system... be proud and dont hold back on your FTO... Then you'll always remember this car well into old age, after you've bought your family car and got married, and crap...
Thats basically my mentalitly when people tell me i couldve bought a house by now...
f**k it! id rather have fun now... get it out of my system... buy a house in 2 years when im done...
I'd say keep it... Dont forget if you buy an EVO... you'll want to modify it... cause they're so popular... so keep that in your calculations...
Oh and that there'll always be somebody faster... so power can become an addiction...

DOnt get me wrong i wasnt saying SELL IT. I was just stating look at both sides of the coin.
Sam i agree with most of what you said except the whole "get it out of your system thing". You cant, you can put it off but it just comes back. I got out of the car scene for about 6 yrs and i f**ken hated it. I missed playing round with cars soo much. So i sold the family car, ditched the misses and sold my house........couldnt be happier

your young, my advice is buy a car with better potential if you want power. However the quest for power will not end when you start until after 3-4 years you realise that it was a big waste of money and time and you decide there are more important things in life and priorities change, this will happen.
if you try and do it, do it properly. but dont expect the quest for power to be cheep, no matter which road yuo choose, it will cost bucks...and if you havnt got them, dont do it and stick with your FTO as its a preety good, cheap car that looks good.

I guess if you can afford to buy an Evo8 you can afford to do up your FTO..
I think your first step has got to be to go out & test drive as many other potential cars as possible .. If you have already driven an Evo 8, then you would already have some idea about whether its something you want ..
FTO's look great, and are not bad in handling / power .. for some people they're a good stepping stone on to bigger more powerful cars, for others its their pride & joy and wouldn't sell it for the world. It's all up to you in the end, everyone will have different opinions .. Sort out your priorities .. if big POWER is what you want, then the FTO isn't going to make it without spending some serious $$$ .. but then again .. if you get an EVO, you're probably going to want to spend some serious $$$ on it in the quest for more power anyway.. only the rewards vs $$$ input is going to have better payoffs..
I agree with Sam - you're young, whatever you choose to do, you might as well do it now & have some fun while you don't have a mortgage to pay off & 7 little subbies running around the place..
IMO - I'm more of a form over function type - Has to look good .. but if the FTO only made 50kw atw I wouldn't go anywhere near it (unless it had the potential for making more power)
Oh & one other bit of advice .. don't limit yourself to EVO's
There are plenty of other nice cars out there..

Magna's FTW!! I use to have one too. IMO it really depends on what you want down the line. I plan on keeping my car for a good long time, even after the house/family stuff (altho sometimes things do change), so I'm keen on throwing money at it knowing I'll never get it back. I have every intention on keeping it my daily driver as well, so that another thing to think about.
My opinion of the money investment, the amount i spend on it will be returned in me being happy and proud of my little bitch and because I'm keeping it I'll get my money's worth on it. Watching something you created and personalised from scratch is an awesome feeling. If you're not happy with the amount of power it has now there are options (turbo/scharger, engine conversion, NOS). Another thing is if you cbf'd to go through that though.
The evo's offer an awesome package out of the box. Test drive one and see if it make you happy in the pants. Also ask a forum member with a turbo'd fto or one that's fully worked to take you for a spin or possibly let you drive it. Compare the feeling in your pants. LOL.
Looks wise the fto has far sexier body lines and if you think the same then you'll be getting bored with the looks of the evo real quickly. "The fto's have potential. After you invest 15grand and order parts overnight from japan, this car will decimate all"
