Got minor defect notice, sigh

Post by Valandis91 »

Last night went for a spirited run through the taroona bends on the way back a cop mustve been speeding through the bends for like 7 mins just to catch up to me even though i wasnt speeding. i got a bit sus cos this car was catching up fast behind me and been in awkward situations before. Turned out being a undercover cop.

He claimed he was doing 70km/h in the 60 zone just to keep up with me even though he was ages behind me so i dont how that works. wasnt using a speed gun or anything just his speedo....

pulled me over after a couple of mins. Gave me speeding fine for 10k's over being $110 fine a 2 demerit points. as a P1 Plater i only have 4 and this means i have to restart my p1 which i only have less than 3 months of left before i can go off my p's.

i was only doing 60 and he wouldve still been catching up to me so i have no idea how he got it. just guessed probably.

then gave me a defect notice for my exhaust being too loud.

Said he heard me going trhough and then coming back. i said my car sounds like its going faster than what it is. i get it all the time. but nothing.

so yeah what should i do now for both?

ive been driving around with thi8s exhaust for like 6 months in the city most the time and had lots of cops behind me and never been pulled over or nothing for it.

it really freakinmg frustrates me.

put a baffle plate in just to get the defect off

and just wear the fine $110 is bugger all pain about being longer on your P's but it could be worse

by the time you take it to court and fight it, you may be on your next stage.

you should only be dropped back to restart p2s (hopefully)

How the hell does a cop 'know' when an exhaust is too loud? Is his ear the DB measuring device? No. You'll have to take it to court.

Same with the speeding. They can't follow you for a 1/4 mile while checking your speed on their speedo. Doesn't work like that any more, must be gun measured.

If you can afford the time off work & want to beat the system, take itt to court cause you'll get off both items. The cop was being a cock.

Unfortunately this is the society we are living in!

When it gets to court it's his word against yours... (on the speeding) who do you think the magistrates will believe?

It's not right & it's nowhere near fair but fighting a coppers word in court is virtually impossible.

Unless you have some "proof" you were not exceeding the limit it's not worth fighting. You could ask for his 'proof' !!!

A bag of shite I know.......some cops just have fcuk all better to do with their time!!!

i got done the same sorta thing altho i was massively speeding but he couldnt prove it but he gave me a ticket any way
theres not much you can do altho if he said he was doing 70 to catch up and he caught u then how could you have been doing 70 ?
call the police station ask to see the video ( if they have one )
but its very likely you wont win police could pick any rego and say he was doing 30kms over the limit ( if they wanted ) and theres no way to prove you wernt
not unless you had a mangement that records your speed limit
ive been thinking bout throwing in some front and rear cameras and carputer plug it into ecu and record all data ( but then that might just get me a worse fine hahaha )

They can only do a speed check on a stright traveling at the same speed for a certain distance
Corners are a bit diff as most people brake befor the corner and bit had to judge distance and speed on corners

I got done bout 1km away at night witth no street lights with another car between me and the cop
Mayb there robbocop

Some of you guys are forgetting that each state has different road laws and enforcement. RTA is nsw.

I would be going to court and basically arguing that a police officer is not a calibrated/accurate measuring device
