Brake Shudder

Hey guys,
When I apply the brakes there is a considerable amount of shudder coming through the pedal and there seems to be a bit of inconsistency. I've heard that machining the discs fixes this problem, any ideas?? I'd appreciate a quote on fixing this too if any of you guys have encountered the same thing. Cheers, Kuran

Yeah your discs could be warped.

Can you get slotted/cross-drilled rotors machined?

A few years ago I got the stock rotors machined for around $25 I think, shouldn't be much more than that now.

Mate I had this problem really bad when I bought my beast.
I ended up replacing the rotors and pads..
Put slotted RDAs and Bendix CRTs on.
Not too expensive and stops like a dream now :)

Lol. I had rotors machined, brakes bled and new pads installed for a carton of piss by a mate who works at beaurepairs. So on the mainland, should only cost $50?

The RDA slotted rotors are well priced and will stop that problem occurring unless you are crazy on the brakes. Unfortunately, stock GR/GPX rotors warp fairly easily. If you get them machined, theyll be OK, but if you are heavy on the brakes, theyll just warp on you again. I think the RDA's are around $220 for the fronts from memory and are well worh the outlay (better braking and less chance of warping). You shouldnt need to replace the rears as they are unlikely to warp (they do a lot less work when braking).

Are the standard DBA425 rotors any good (in terms of long life and not warping and things)? I don't brake that hard unless i'm having play time  Would they be worth my money though or am i better off paying 100 bucks more for slotted?

Slotted foe the win.
It's better to have them there when you need them not wish that you had put them on when your breads fall away.

Avoid the 400 series full stop. They're just standard rotors slotted or drilled to order. You want decent ones, the 4000 series is the only way to go.
