Gearbox removal troubleshooting =)

Post by FTO-BOY »

Ok since I'm removing my gearbox I might aswell create this thread.

Ok manage to get the driveshaft easy BUT that was because the boot were split already so they just ppopped out.

Here's the question. Where do I get the new boot and how much? I'm talking about the Side that is connected to the gearbox and not the CV joints. Also is it just High temp grease that I put in there?

Thanks dwayne. Does that include the clip/ring that holds them in place and also what grease do i use?

in the workshop manual it just says "rebuild kit".

Does the tie rod/lower arm ball joint need to be taken out?

Nope, you do not need to remove either.

Hey so the gearbox is finally in and been driving around for about 150km now. Hehe I must say.. At 110km/h I'm sitting at 3,000rpm but on my old box I would have been on 3,500rpm. So pretty happy about that.

Ok didn't any realised this but the driver side cv joint is making a clicking noises when I turn sometimes. My question is, can I get the shaft out without unbolting the wheel hub off coz I don't want to get another wheel alignment after one today.

na mate to remove drive shaft need to remove from hub.

If you dont have camber bolts you shouldnt need a W/A as no need to remove tie rods etc, but if you do then just mark where it was all sitting before you remove ;) but would still recommend a quick check again just to be sure
