GOD DAMN car wont start!

Post by Robb »

Hello Peeps,

Today is my Birthday and I have had the distinguished privilege of my car dying and of coarse it has happened while I'm at work stranding it out in the middle of hell (Bungendore NSW).

When I went to start the car (Warm engine) it sounded like a screwed battery having trouble turning the engine over, then it stopped making any noise and does nothing now. The battery is 4 months old and fully charged I think it might be the stepper motor or the starter motor or something else but then again I'm not sure.

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem is??? It has happened twice in the last month it would have trouble turning over but eventually would start but now is totally dead... GOD DAMN IT!!!

Dwayne I don't want to miss your next bonfire so I need help

Check your negative terminal, could be a bad connection.

Are you getting any dash lights or is it completely unresponsive?

Yes everything lights up, dash alarm and immobilizer work normally as do headlights and indicators. Everything electrical works I just get nothing when I turn key apart from the occassional tick sound from the engine bay. Sounds like it is trying to do something but cant...

Hope that helps...

Dwayne do you have a spare starter motor that I could try???

I replaced the fuses about 8 months ago but will give it another look...

Give me a call on my mobile so we can organise something (provided you do have a spare motor) just remember I don't have access to my phone during business hours because of where I work and where is the motor located in the engine bay???

yip connects to gearbox and sit right below oil filter. Try giving it a tap with hammer for now should at least get it running until you get a replacment ;)

Well I have changed the starter motor and my car starts every time, thanks to all that gave advise and Dwayne you are a legend. It was a painful job to change though -

      1. Undo both bolts and remove both wires - 2 minutes
      2. Getting the damn thing out of there - 30 minutes 8O
      3. Putting the new one in - 5 minutes
      4. Reconnect wires and bolts - 2 minutes

I'll have to clean the old unit as it has about 2.5 tonnes of oil, grease and crap all over it  Probably why it wasn't working very well...

not as bad as mine it took me a day , why
cause my cars to low had to do the work on top of my driveway
the thread on the new starter was stuffed and the bolt wouldnt go into it
so i went to pull them both apart but ended up stripping one but 1 bolt was stuck on the other and wouldnt get it off
so had to drill the new starter hole out get new bolt and nut

i know what you mean its a bitch to get in and out cause of the exhaust

Bduffman I found that the heat shield cap over the end of the starter motor was catching on the exhaust like you so I had to unscrew the two little nuts to get the cap off (not easy)and then remove the cap off the new one get it in place and the put the shield cap back on (also not easy)...

Dwayne I did call you a Legend just before so of course it only takes you ten minute I thought you would have realised this by now

Btw has anyone else gotten really pissed off when changing a starter motor and almost killed the neighbours cat by throwing a hammer at it because they couldn't reach the brick that was near my feet... or is it just me

Yea I did the other I took the exhaust heat sheld off 2 clamps was bored so painted it with caliper paint to see how it would hold up agaist the heat
I put it in and removed it a few times you really need to get the right angle and mayb give it a nock to get past the exhaust isn't a hard job but was 100 times harder when im laying on a hill with only 1 side jacked up and front bar being so low

Least its not some thing you always need to change like spark plugs there more of a job to do then starter
